FUUUUUUCCCCCCKKK Beans.

I totally blundered in cooking dinner tonight.
I had the mashed potatoes boiling contentedly on the stove top while my meatloaf cooked away in the oven.

Admittedly, I got a little swept up in online browsing while things were a cooking and I didn't think to check on the potatoes because I'm so used to just letting them boil themselves to softness and awesomeness. If I had done that before the oven timer had gone off for the loaf, I would have noticed that all the water had boiled off the potatoes and my spuds were stuck to a blackened pot.

The black spuds ended up in the garbage and I ended up having to make instant...my least favorite variety of potato.

I know it's not the end of the world. I know that it's most certainly a first world problem. But dammit, homemade mashed potatoes are my favorite things in the whole wide world and I rarely make them because I consider them to be a "special treat."

:/

*hugs you* It's very distressing when you look forward to something and then it all goes awry, so I completely understand your potato-sorrow.

I understand diner blunders. I made tacos last night and I crisped the shells and when took them out of the oven I dumped them on the floor and they all broke. 90% of my attempts to cook resulting tragedy.

My sympathies to you and your potatoes.

I feel your pain. I hate when my favorite dish goes wrong on me.. no matter the reason why that happened.

Been there, done that. LOL!

How's the saucpan, not too badly burned, cleanable I hope

Yep I have done that as well. Hope the pan is usable again. I did that once with pea soup and had to toss the kettle as well. Not only did we not have dinner, but I lost my favorite soup kettle.

Aw... that really sucks. :(

You should hook me up with your mashed potatoes recipe. Knowing how awesome you make most things it's probably incredible, and I'd love to surprise my two lovely ladies (Mandy and my roomie) with it for dinner sometime.

::pets you::

It happens to the best of us. I once baked a pecan pie for more than two hours, cos I didn't hear the timer go off and completely forgot about it. It was pretty much charcoal by the time I remembered.

Oh no! Cooking blunders really do suck. :(

Mashed potatoes are my once-in-a-while treat, too. I'm sorry yours didn't work out. :-(

Homemade mashed potatoes sound so good...I'm sorry that happened. :(

On a positive note, this only guarantees the next time you make mashed potatoes, they will be the best ones you've ever had. <3
