Wedding Day And (Slightly) Beyond!

Let's see, I was out of bed at 6:30 am courtesy of my nerves and excitement. I had breakfast with my dad, mom, and Mary Ann and then all the ladies headed to the salon for our hair appointments. My stylist was surprised that I didn't do a trial run before the wedding day, but I will tell you that bobby pins and hairspray can go a long way. :P I was very pleased with how my hair turned out. She also did my make-up and I thought she did a wonderful job.

We headed to Madison shortly after the appointments and had lunch at Mary Ann's house. Nick's sister (and my other bridesmaid) joined us there with her daughter, Della, who was one of our flower girls.

We hung out for awhile and then headed to the Museum of Contemporary Art. Our photographer met up with me there and we discussed her ideas and what not. Since Nick and I were seeing each other before the ceremony, our photographer coordinated the reveal to occur on the glass staircase in the museum. I thought it turned out awesome. Nick was also super cute when he saw me in the dress. In order to avoid seeing all of our guests before the wedding, Nick and I got to sneak through the kitchen and ride down to the art classroom that was our holding grounds.

When it came time for the ceremony, I felt like I'd lost all my brain cells. The song my dad and I were supposed to walk into started and I remember frantically trying to remember if that was my song or not. Dad remembered and we started moving. We got up the gardens and I hugged dad before Nick took my hand. My cousin Missy and friend Angie did a beautiful job with their readings and I remember feeling so overwhelmed that all I wanted to do was hold Nick's hands. He was pretty obliging. :P

After the ceremony, we stayed on the roof for more pictures and then we headed down to the lobby to meet up with our guests.

I was absolutely thrilled to see [livejournal.com profile] angelskuuipo and her husband as well as [livejournal.com profile] secondmezzanine and her man. I also got to see my friend Catherine who had hosted me when I went to New York City a few years ago.

We went back up to the roof for dinner and the food was absolutely awesome. My favorite was the ricotta-stuffed gnocchi. My sister Mary Ann and our best man Kit handled their speeches with aplomb. Mary Ann read a letter that I wrote back in 2004 when she was still in Africa for the Peace Corps where I had told her about Nick. Kit opened with the "Mawwiage" speech from The Princess Bride.

We ended the night with dancing. Nick and I had designed most of our playlist and my dad (a radio engineer) and his friend, Rob, helped make it possible for us to have the songs we wanted. I loved my first dance, cried during my dance with my dad, and had a blast teaching my guests how to Zumba. I also loved the conga line that formed for Megan Trainor's "All About That Bass," the pure joy that developed during Robin Sparkles "Let's Go To the Mall," and the fact that Kit and Catherine lifted me up so I could be levitated during the "Shake Senora Remix."

Other pluses:
~The TARDIS card box that my dad built. 86 individual pieces and it lit up blue during the dance.
~The bouquets made of gorgeous flowers, including my favorite: celosia.
~The weather.
~The almost full moon.
~Howling at said moon with Loki and [livejournal.com profile] angelskuuipo.
~The kids and adults wearing glow bracelets and necklaces.

The negative:
~Not getting the chance to talk to everyone. There were just so many people and it was impossible getting to see and hug them all.

Day after:

We had a gift opening in our hotel suite. My mom, dad, Mary Ann, Kit, Thomas, and [livejournal.com profile] angelskuuipo joined us and it was a lovely way to start the day.

We got lots of wine, a electronic corkscrew, picture frames, memory foam pillows, bath towels, a cute wall hanging, a penguin cookie cutter, and loads of cards.

In a post to come, I'll talk about the honeymoon.

Until then:

Your hair and makeup were gorgeous--I loved them both! You were so beautiful AS WAS THE DRESS! I really appreciated that Nick was in a tux but otherwise still looked like Nick. :)

I loved the hors d'oeuvres (no idea how to actually spell that) and cocktails hour and it was lovely to see you! We LOVED the food and I had a blast dancing with you! I've never been to an outdoor reception and it was PERFECT and romantic and lovely and I met many lovely people. It was great all around. Looking forward to you being back at work so we can discuss every detail via email. :)

The lady at Chalet on Grand had the patience of a saint. She had the most delicate hand when it came to mascara and eye liner.

I think you spelled that right. :P I heard that people really liked the marinated flank steak (which was one of our faves at the catering event back in April). I got down there in time to have a bosc pear.

I had a blast dancing with you as well and it was so cool to meet B. He seems like a really sweet guy.

I'll be back into work on Monday. Totes thought of you when we were up in the UP this week. :P

You were a stunning bride, Nick was a handsome groom, and the evening was amazeballs. :)

I am so sorry we missed the conga line! That would have been epic.

Thomas wanted me to tell you that you win at hugging. He said that you give some of the best hugs he's ever had. :D

Thank you again for including us in your celebrations. ::squishes::

[identity profile] snogged.livejournal.com 2014-09-15 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad you had fun!! I loved that you and Thomas got to sit with my great aunt Dorothy. She's quite the lady. :P

Aww! Tell Thomas thank you.

Thank you!!

I know. It was the best!

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2014-09-19 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh my gosh I'm terribly tardy in commenting, forgive me dear! I looked at the photos from your wedding and burst into happy tears. You look like a QUEEN, and how wonderful that I finally have a face to put to Nick's name! The two of you look so wonderful together, and I'm glad your Big Party was everything you could hope for. I don't think I've read of a wedding that was more fun.

The ceremony at the museum is absolutely inspired. I'd never heard of anyone doing that. Jen's photgraph is stunning.

congratulation again to you and Nick!

[identity profile] snogged.livejournal.com 2014-09-19 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
You are absolutely forgiven!
*cuddles you*

Thank you, my darling! I am so excited to be a married lady. :P

[identity profile] red-satin-doll.livejournal.com 2014-09-19 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
*giggles* I like cuddles! :D

My stylist was surprised that I didn't do a trial run before the wedding day,

I have to admit I read that and chuckled (at the stylist, not you) because I can see why they advocate that but still, it's HAIR, not an automobile. I can't tell exactly from the photos but yours looks to be fairly thickor at least reasonably so and all sorts of fun things can be done with thick hair. (OR fine hair for that matter.) Your's looks marvelous, she did a wonderful job with those ringlets falling to your shoulders without making it look too "done". I suspect not having time to overthink it may have been a good thing!

And wait, what is this - you had Robin Sparkles on the playlist? VERY COOL! :D

[identity profile] snogged.livejournal.com 2014-09-19 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
My cousin and friend, who are also planning weddings, responded to me the same way my stylist did. It's also on most to-do lists that you would see in wedding magazines.

My hair, while thin, tends to behave pretty well if the person is talented enough. I tend to throw it into a ponytail, but my sister has made it do fairly amazing things. I had faith the stylist would do the same.

Absolutely! I designed the playlist myself so I wanted to make sure my geeky side was captured in the music.

[identity profile] jewelledfairy.livejournal.com 2014-09-21 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds like your wedding was a ton of fun!

[identity profile] snogged.livejournal.com 2014-09-24 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
It was!
Look forward to hearing about yours. :P

[identity profile] jewelledfairy.livejournal.com 2014-09-24 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I just need to find some time to actually work on planning it. The devil is in the details at this point.

[identity profile] cafedemonde.livejournal.com 2014-12-13 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, what a lovely day! You looked so beautiful and happy. I loved reading all the details and teared-up a bit when you said you cried dancing with your day, so did I at mine.

Thanks for sharing such a special day!

Glad you enjoyed my recap!
