Ficlet: Better At Saving The World (Spike/Angel) PG-13

A/N: For spring_spangel. Dedicated to velvetwhip who suggested the prompt: “Fighting as Foreplay” I hope this works for her.


Angel narrowed his eyes for what felt like the 600th time today. He never should have let the bleached moron tag along. Spike was still going on and on about how he was better at saving the world than Angel was even though the original verbal battle between them had ended hours ago.

“Spike, would you shut up already?”

“And what if I don’t?” Spike scoffed, clearly not intimidated by Angel’s threats. He jabbed his finger into Angel’s shoulder. “Gonna kick my ass, mate?”

“I might be tempted,” Angel replied.

Spike jabbed Angel’s shoulder again, pushing him off balance. “I could just kick your ass again. It wouldn’t be hard to do.”

Angel righted himself and Spike’s fingers came towards him again. This time, Angel was ready for it. He caught Spike’s finger and snapped it at the first knuckle. Spike balled his other hand into a fist and made contact with Angel’s jaw bone.

Angel lashed out his leg and sent Spike tumbling to the pavement. Spike reached up and grabbed Angel’s ankle, bringing the larger vampire down on top of him and wrapping a leg around his waist.

Angel punched Spike in the nose. Spike growled and shifted into vamp face.

“You’re gonna pay for that, Forehead.”

“Oh yeah?” Angel panted. “Whatcha gonna do? Bore me to death with your sarcasm?”

Spike leaned upwards and head butted Angel full in the face. It was a smooth, well-delivered move but it didn’t knock him into a coma like it would with a human.

Angel growled and grabbed Spike’s wrists, pinning them above his head. Spike waggled his eyebrows and Angel kissed him ruthlessly, forcing his tongue between Spike’s lips. Spike moaned, arching himself into Angel’s savage display of affection.

After a few minutes, Angel pushed himself off of Spike and rolled to his feet. Spike blinked twice and rocked his body into a standing position.

“That didn’t happen,” Angel muttered.

“You keep telling yourself that, peaches.” Spike grinned. “Bet you won’t be able to keep your hands off of me. Everyone wants a piece of this.”

Angel closed the gap between them and pulled Spike into a tight embrace. “Let’s make one thing clear, Spike. I’m better at saving the world than you.”

Spike growled but didn’t say anything. There would be plenty of time to piss of Angel later…after Spike saved the world from death and destruction, of course.
