30 Days of Female Awesome

Preface: I'm sure many of you know of my extensive television, film, and reading habits so it should come as no surprise that my goal for this meme is to explore a wide variety of female characters. I realize that there may be some repetition, but I really want to celebrate as many faces as possible.

Day One: Favorite female lead character

Georgia "George" Lass on Dead Like Me

She's not really a feminist icon nor is she exactly the type of girl you'd choose to back in a fight. But with one touch and a Post-it note, she can take your soul and you'll die a horrible (but practically painless) death.

What I like about George is that she's a supernatural-esque lead character you can relate too. She has her flaws, her fair share of struggles, and she works in a temp agency (okay, so that last one might just be me.) Despite her apathy towards most things, she brings a poignancy to the screen in her relationships with the other Reapers (particularly Rube) and the relationships she desperately wants with to have with her family now that she can't have them anymore.

I realize that this one of those shows I don't talk about much, but it is one I adore.

I liked it that she was so grumpy and so against everything at the beginning^^ Just like a normal teenager

Maybe I'll snagg this meme

I know! That was one of the many things I loved about her.

And go for it! I'd love to see your answers.

Ha, what a timely post! I just finished the first season, and I love George so much.

She's fabulous. :)

The way I see it is that George is the apathetic, lovable character that JD Salinger poorly attempted to create with Holden.

Don't get me started on Catcher in the Rye...

I know why you hate it. I know WHY I hate it.

I'm just saying Bryan Fuller figured out how to make the recipe look pretty instead of burnt black and disgusting.

I miss that show.

[identity profile] niki1988.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
I hope their still showing it on tv.

[identity profile] snogged.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I know they air it on My 24 (a broadcast network as opposed to cable) as that's how my dad and I started watching it in the first place.

OMG that show was freakin' AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It sucked so bad that it got cancelled!!!!!!!!!!!

and speaking of cancelled, I started watching a show called Freaks and Geeks (someone at work raved about it so I ended up renting it) I couldn't believe the cast!!!!!! Marshall from HIMYM was one of the stars and a 14 year old Sweets from Bones was also another star!!!!!!! also in the cast James Franco, Seth Rogan and Linda Cardellini (she was Velma in the Scooby movies) it only lasted a season and didn't THAT just suck as it soooooooooooooo ROCKED!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] snogged.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I was sad it got canceled. Though I never actually got to watch it until it started airing on broadcast TV instead of cable.

And hee! I adore Freaks and Geeks. Nick and I stumbled upon that one. It's such a great cast!!

This was totally worth the two-hour wait! Totally unexpected answer, actually!

And I feel the same way you do about Dead Like Me and George. I think that George is a great character, and I'm sad I rarely get a chance to talk about how much I loved Dead Like Me

[identity profile] snogged.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad I could surprise you. :)

And you're always welcome to talk about Dead Like Me with me.

This is an amazing show, and George is part of what makes it so special. Her issues with her family, her relationships with the reapers, and the way that she is trying to make the best of a bad situation are all things that make her wonderful. I also love the way that she matured and grew as a person during the course of the show.

[identity profile] snogged.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. :)

[identity profile] idioticonion.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
I really should watch Dead Like Me shouldn't I? I'm constantly being recced it. I wonder if there's a box set?

[identity profile] snogged.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure.
It's a short series though. Only 2 seasons.

[identity profile] shakensilence.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I only got to watch the first season but George was awesome... I can completely see why you love her.

[identity profile] snogged.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
She's a great main character!

[identity profile] rocker-vamp.livejournal.com 2010-11-02 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Dead Like Me and I love George! I can relate to her so much! As you probably know, I also have one of her first quotes on my FB.
"I'd say I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I'm not. I excel at not giving a shit. Experience has taught me that interest begets expectation and expectation begets disappointment, so the key to avoiding disappointment is to avoid interest."
Yay!

Thanks! I love it.
