Karen vs. Mitzy - Jewelry Store Wars

Tonight, my friend Kit (aka the Matchmaker. Without him, Nick and I wouldn't have met the way we did) and I ventured out to two well known jewelry stores: Kessler's Diamond Center and Jared: The Galleria of Jewelry.

We did this for two reasons: (A)Nick wants to know my ring size and (B)Nick is crazy nervous about ring shopping and so he was grateful when Kit suggested that he'd go with me to look at things so that Nick could have some kinda clue about what would be most appropriate for me when the time came.

Our first stop was Kessler's. We did have to wait a few minutes before meeting with a sales associate, but we were treated extremely well from start to finish. We were offered a beverage and both of us selected hot cocoa (as its freezing outside!!). It was delicious, b-t-dub. Our sales rep, Karen, was very clear about what makes their store best, she was engaged in our selections, and suggested some of her own ideas based on what my picks told her. When we were done, we got this neat little folder that had the ring specs and prices along with information about their warranty, etc. When we left, I was positively glowing.

The glow almost came to a speedy end when we entered Jared's and Mitzy, a certified "diamondologist", attached herself to us. We were shuffled around from display to display, but there was no information given about anything. I asked her about the warranty, but she couldn't offer us the same deal Kessler's did. It was really just like: Look at sparkly! Buy the sparkly! It got quite annoying, especially since the diamonds there didn't even sparkle like the ones at Kessler's. When we left the shop, Kit and I let go of all the laughs we'd been holding in and then we went to Pet Smart to coo over all the cute kitties.

:D

Final verdict: Karen's winning this battle.

She was definitely taught the model of customer care.

Jehosh and I got our rings from Turtle Love Co. Their products tend to come from individual crafters and are made from recycled or conscientious materials. They were also really awesome about customer service and came beautifully packaged.. Just something to think about if you're not looking for a typical diamond ring :-)

Oh the first one sounds wonderful!! So he wants to propose? *grin*

We're certainly getting closer to that one. :)

Yay for good sales reps! Sometimes they are so hard to find.

They certainly can be.

Granted it's not much to go on, but the Kessler's commercials on the radio portray their company as a very good one. One thing that they say is that they make sure that the diamonds are cut properly so that they get the most sparkle, but are also cheaper because there isn't some extra bits making it heavier (and therefore more expensive). Sounds like there might be something to what they said. I'm glad to hear that you had a good experience there!

They definitely seem to follow through with their marketing campaigns.

Yay for good sales associates! It's difficult to find them (at least here in Greece)

My boyfriend went with his sister to buy the ring. We like the same things and she has the same ring size. I was lucky :)

Hell yeah she did. :)

What a difference, I think I would know what store to shop at after that. :)

What a lovely way to spend your time, looking at 'sparklies' and cute kitties.

Yup. :)

Ooooooh... ring shopping! It definitely sounds like Kessler's won this round. LOL.

Ooh I can't stand jewelry stores like the second one! I went with my mom to a store where they were fixing her watch and they were like "wanna look at this? or this? don't you like this?!" and I'm like...really, no. High pressure people make me nervous!

Glad the other store seemed like a good start! (And ooooooooh exciting! :P)

Yeah my parents went diamond shopping first in dress clothes and then the second time in motorcycle gear. The place that got their business treated them wonderfully in both outfits. I like good people and good customer service. It brings me joy!
