*I'm sick. I started feeling the cold symptoms on Friday after Thanksgiving - stuffed nose, horrible cough, body aches, and scratchy throat. I have thankfully managed to avoid a fever, but I feel miserable. Nick is sick too. :/

*I would really like it if there was some sort of chicken and dumpling soup delivery service. I'm staying home from work today, but I do not want to venture outside if I don't have to.

*I watched the Gilmore Girls Revival all-day Friday. There was lots of screaming, crying, and squeeing. I really enjoyed it. It felt like coming back to an old book. The characters were fantastic, especially Kirk. Logan has aged extremely well (rawr). I liked the storylines and the way they tried to deal with the difficulties of scheduling cast members. I was unsettled by the "last four words," but I've read some reviews that have helped me process.

*I saw Moana with my parents over the weekend. I loved it. Beautiful animation, great characters, excellent music.

*I'm starting therapy back up again tomorrow. I hope it goes well. I had to pick someone new because my other two therapists left the clinic.

*I need to post my holiday card request list. Hopefully that will happen later today.

Later, gators.

I definitely had my patience for life tested this morning.

I didn't sleep well - tossing, turning, waking up at 2:45 and again at 3:30. It would be easy to blame it on the storm, but it was actually a mixture of insomnia and general worrying about life stuff. I managed to wake up to my alarm and listened to a little Dream Theater before leaving for work.

I had to work in the Baraboo office so I was initially excited to stop at my favorite coffee house. I got my Heath Bar Mocha frappe and felt a little more prepared for the day. From there, however, I nearly hit a woman who had her turn signal on (she was not turning, actually. She was going straight. She did apologize for not turning off her signal.) Then...I locked my keys in my car.

I knew the spare key was on the kitchen table so I called my husband. In doing so, I woke him up and he mentioned that several times. I told him about my predicament and my fear that I would have to pay for an expensive locksmith. Nick didn't feel he had time to drive to Baraboo because he had to work at 11.

I worked out two alternate, low cost plans. One was to have my co-worker in Baraboo drive me home (which would have resulted in Nick needing to leave the side door unlocked). The second was to ask my neighbor (at home for the summer) to bring the spare key to Baraboo. We went for the 2nd option and I had to beg Nick to walk the keys over to the house next door. He begrudgingly did so and my neighbor, L, made it up to Baraboo with the key.

I'm thankfully home now. I have both sets of car keys and I figure this day probably can't get any worse so I'm going to call that my win for the day.

That...and the Culver's custard that I'm going to eat later.

snagged this from [livejournal.com profile] xspike4evax

1. Which Disney character do you relate to most?
I've always felt closest to Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I love to read (obvious), but I also like to believe that I share some of Belle's compassion for others. She is usually able to find the good in someone and I try to do that too.

2. What is your favourite Disney Villain song?
"Poor Unfortunate Souls" sung by Ursula. As a kid, it gave me nightmares. As an adult, I appreciate the sass.

3. Who is your favourite Disney sidekick?
Vanellope Von Schweetz from Wreck-It Ralph. She's essentially me...as a kid. :P

4. What is your favourite Disney Renaissance movie?
Since the Disney Renaissance essentially took place in the '90's, I'm going to go with one of my absolute favorite films: Beauty and the Beast

5. What’s is your favourite live-action Disney movie?
The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band. That movie is a household staple from my childhood.

6. Do you prefer Elsa or Anna?
Definitely Anna. I love her spunky, can-do spirit and her love for Elsa.

7. If you were a fairy in Pixie Hollow what kind of fairy talent would you have?
I would definitely want to be a water-talent fairy. I've always felt connected to the water and it would be fun to have some control over it.

8. Which Disney movie castle or place would you like to live in?
The house from Lady and the Tramp. I really love the Victorian style.

9. If you were the star of a Disney movie, what would your Disney sidekick be like?
My sidekick would be like Pascal from Tangled.

10. If you could own one Disney character outfit, whose outfit would it be?
I really like Tiana's green gown that she wears at the end.

11. What Disney quote do you feel best represents you?
"Today is a good day to try." -- Quasimodo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)

Finally, I got my hair professionally dyed/streaked over the weekend. We ended up with a little red and a little purple. I really like the result, though it does look better in person.

Yesterday, my husband and I attended Wizard World Comic Con in Madison. I had bought tickets months ago because I figured it was a good birthday present for my sweetie (he turns 33 next weekend.) We hurried thru the cold (because it's April and we're having "Snapril aka Snow April) and arrived a little bit after the doors had opened.

I've been feeling a bit under the weather this week. It started with a simple congested nose and in the last two days, has progressed into clearer nostrils with the added bonus of a crackly voice and painful, dry cough. :/

I'm still trying to make the most of the weekend. Last night, I stayed in. I finished my book (The Misfits by James Howe), caught up on Brooklynn 99 and iZombie, and watched a movie called Adult World on Netflix Instant. It was a decent film. I enjoyed John Cusack and Cloris Leachman the most.

Today, I did a little retail therapy. I went to the Disney store and picked up my pre-order of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves on Blue-Ray. I also picked up a Prince Naveen and Princess Tiana doll for my niece's birthday in June because they were on sale for $10 each. I confirmed with her mama that she doesn't have those. I also popped into Claire's and picked up a cute white infinity scarf with gold clovers and I stopped at Hot Topic. They had a buy 2, get one free deal going on so I opted to get a few Deadpool items. I got a Stainless Steel Water Bottle , a Deadpool Plush , and a pair of socks.

I stopped at one of my favorite coffee places, Two Rivers, to drop off one of the flyers for the Valentine's Cabaret we're doing. My friend, Jerusha, noted I wasn't sounding so great so she made her famous elixir - peppermint and tangerine honey teas with a generous splash of honey. It's really calming my throat and that makes me a happy girl.

How's your weekend so far?

I have continued to be a presence on LJ, but I feel like I haven't been so good in the blogging department these last few weeks. So I would like to take this opportunity to give you an update on life and stuff.

Wedding

Nick and I spent the first weekend in December celebrating the nuptials of the beautiful [livejournal.com profile] secondmezzanine. The weather was a bit unseemly for December in the Midwest, i.e. it was 46 degrees Fahrenheit, but that it was such a beautiful day.

The wedding started at 5 pm and included readings like "How Falling In Love Is Like Owning A Dog" and "The Little Yellow Leaf." Her bridesmaids looked gorgeous in their red dresses and white fuzzy shoulder shrugs. Her flower girl looked adorable in her red cloak adorned with white faux fur. It was interesting introducing myself to her friends and family. It all worked out just fine though. I spent much of the night with a fabulous older lady named Krista. She was originally from Southern California, but was now part of the community theater circuit in Iowa. I introduced her to Rumchata and she seemed to love that. (Fun fact: Krista used to be married to Quantum Leap's Scott Bakula.)

I made new friends by asking the DJ to play "The Time Warp." Mezz earned brownie points from the DJ when she requested Robin Sparkles' "Let's Go To The Mall." I danced with the bride until our feet were sore. I enjoyed a drink from the awesome hot cocoa bar and had a damn good time.

Hubby and I in front of the Christmas tree )

This Weekend

Nick went gaming (Pathfinder) with his friend, Rick, on Friday night. I spent my Friday night with my friend, Lyndsey (Rick's wife) and her two kids. We checked out the Christmas lights in the park and I thought it was awesome that one display had a small green dragon leading a pack of reindeer. I read some Christmas books to the kids before heading back to my house. I curled up on the sofa and watched one of my favorite films: Love, Actually. I also finished book #59 this year ("Between the Lines" by Jodi Picoult and her daughter, Samantha Van Leer).

Yesterday, I watched about 4 episodes of Supernatural Season 7 while wrapping presents. I really enjoyed the James Marsters/Charisma Carpenter one. I also liked the episode with the guest appearance by Jewel Staite.

Today, I wrote the first draft of my Which Willow fic, wrote out holiday cards, and made dark chocolate peanut clusters. The rest of my day will be spent cleaning, writing up the notes from the community theater meeting, and going to Zumba. I also need to write something for Noel of Spike and fill my mod challenge over at Nekid Spike.

Hope you're all having a good weekend!

I'm flying out to Denver, CO tomorrow. :)

My trip includes getting to see [livejournal.com profile] angelskuuipo, [livejournal.com profile] sionnach_ayame, and [livejournal.com profile] dragonydreams for an epic girl's weekend.

Our main plan is to see Idina Menzel and Anthony Rapp perform in the National Broadway Tour Debut of If/Then.

Additional plans include nomming on Danielle's tasty cooking and conversing and squee'ing about our lives and things.

I fly back on Monday and I'll be sure to have a recap ready for you then.

After many, many years of relying on my tiny flip phone for cellular service, I officially upgraded to a "smart" phone. I am now the proud owner of a rose-gold iPhone 6s.

I'm excited to learn how to use it and I'm also excited to have something smaller than my lap top to take with me when I fly to Colorado later this month.

I will admit that I tried the LJ app on the phone tonight and wasn't thrilled with it. I don't see that being something I spend much time using. I prefer to log-in to LJ via my laptop. :)

That's it for now.

I'm going boot shopping tomorrow. Hoping to score some good deals on comfy shoes. :)

I was leaving Kwik Trip today and held the door open for the next person coming in (a white male). He grabbed the door from me and said: "Come on, hunny. You don't need to hold a door for a man."

Ugh. I know chivalry is not dead, but that doesn't excuse sexist behavior.

* Thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday. I really appreciate the thoughtful gesture. I also appreciated the copy of "Secretary" on Blue-Ray that I received from Megan, the virtual gift on my profile from [livejournal.com profile] blondebitz, the Riley/Willow drabble, Not So Nice Guy , by [livejournal.com profile] velvetwhip, and the angsty Willow,Tara drabble, Not Time Yet , by [livejournal.com profile] angelskuuipo.

* It rained all day on my birthday, but that didn't stop us from celebrating. I enjoyed Rumchata shots with many of my favorite relatives (even my mom had 1/2 a shot. I was so proud.) I also sort-of enjoyed the shot of brandy that my cousin Daniel made me drink. My husband, friend Angie, brother-in-law, uncle, and cousin-in-law joined in on that one as well. I got some very nice gifts including wine, gourmet dark chocolates, shower gel, foaming hand soap, 4th of July kitchen towels, a nice toiletry bag, Slytherin knee-high socks, books, a card game, a few magnets from Italy, and a beautiful necklace that Angie found in Kuwait.

* Since that all happened a week ago, the major excitements for this week have included pre-ordering my tickets to see Jurassic World on the Ultrascreen, nearly finishing Twin Peaks, and moving onto season 4 of Gilmore Girls. I'm also reading an interesting thriller called The Good Girl by Mary Kubica.

This weekend has definitely been a great one.

On Saturday, we participated in some physical activity by helping our friends/neighbors disassemble a wooden playground set. There were a few stumbles (and a drill that had to be purchased), but we got it done. I wound up doing more babysitting than heavy lifting, but that was fine by me.

On Saturday night, we had an early birthday celebration with a few friends. Our best man, Kit, came up and introduced me to his new boyfriend (*squee*). They were super cute together. The neighbors mentioned above joined us as did my friends, Mindy and Paul (hosters of the annual Halloween party we go to every year.) I received a few early birthday presents including a Slytherin pen, Slytherin hat, and bouquet of flowers from Kit. Mindy and Paul gave me Ghiradelli Dark Chocolate with Toffee Bits, a marinade called Ginger Wasabiyaki, and my favorite- Garlic EVOO from the Oilerie.

The Stash )

When we got back to my house, we played Cards Against Humanity and had a fabulous time.

Today, I woke up early because I was meeting my friend, Kate, in Sun Prairie to check out Pitch Perfect 2 at the new Marcus Palace Cinema. We got there a 1/2 hour early, anticipating that we'd try the in-theater dining experience. It was not meant to be though because the theater was packed and the 11 am show was sold out. Instead, we got tickets to see the film on the Ultrascreen. It wasn't the same as having food delivered via employee ninjas, but the screen was impressive and the leather recliner seats were super comfy. We enjoyed the movie, loved the cameo by the Green Bay Packers.

I also got to run into a few people I hadn't seen in forever, including my old college roommate from freshman year. That was definitely the biggest highlight of the day (and I got to have popcorn with M&M's mixed in so you know I've set the bar high. :P)

I am planning to finish the night off and catch up on some TV with my hubby.

See you on the flip side!

Today, the city I live in did something really cool. Local businesses and community members joined in an effort to make Random Acts of Kindness an essential part of the day.

The reason: a remarkable young woman named Sam Bieno. She was supposed to turn 23 today, but instead passed away on April 9th from leukimina. She was not someone I knew personally, but I knew a lot of people that she had an impact on and so I felt like I knew how strong her spirit was.

Sam had told her family that she wanted her birthday to be about random acts of kindness and paying it forward.

In turn, our local Culver's (a burger and custard shop) offered a free scoop of Sam's favorite flavor: cookie dough craving to anyone who walked through the door. The Corner Pocket (a sport bar and eatery) offered baskets of free mini corn dogs (another Sam favorite). Sam also loved Build-A-Bear and made efforts to donate the stuffed animals to children with cancer. The community I live in donated 183 stuffed animals in Sam's name to the local hospital. Beyond that, social media helped spread the #youhavebeensammed campaign and I hear it reached Alaska, Northern Iowa, and North Carolina.

Personally, I picked up a bunch of orange artificial flowers from the local dollar store and handed them out to everyone who came to my Zumba class as well as everyone who happened to be sitting in the library at 8:10 on a Wednesday night.

It was a really awesome day and I'm glad I got to be a part of it.

To quote Sam: "Not every day is good, but there's good in every day."

Hope you're all having a great Saturday.

Mine has been enjoyable so far. I browsed the internet for awhile this morning and when Nick woke up, we went out for breakfast at the Red Apple. I had the ham and cheese skillet with cinnamon swirl bread. The cinnamon swirl bread is a new addition to their menu and I guess they also do a French toast with it. I'm definitely going to have to try that.

After breakfast, I went to the mall. I ended up returning the heels from the recent dress/shoe poll. Nick and I both agreed that I did not look comfortable in those. He also thought they resembled Hannibal Lector's face mask, but that's another story. :P The flats naturally were handled with ease. I found three luxe touch short-sleeve shirts and two tank tops at Banana Republic that I liked. I also got three of these from Old Navy in blue, pink, and green for $3 each.

When I got home, Nick and I went for a three mile walk in the absolutely gorgeous weather. I love it when I can convince my husband to get out of the house with me. :P

In a few short hours, we're going to Suzy's Steakhouse for a surprise birthday party. Should be an all around good day.

Yesterday was quite a jam-packed day for me and it was filled with family, old friends, new friends, laughs, drinks, and as Tina Belcher would say...butts. :P

It started with my cousin Missy's wedding shower. Missy has always been my favorite cousin. We were the same grade in school and into a lot of the same things. She's one of my favorite people to just be crazy with and I am so happy that she's heading into wedded bliss next month. One of the first guests at the shower was Melanie W. I used to work with Melanie at the library and I hadn't seen her since her wedding 8 years ago (she moved to California.) It was awesome to catch up with her and we totally fell back into our natural rhythm. It was almost as if we hadn't been separated for most of a decade. :)

After the shower, we had the bachelorette party and I had an absolute blast. We started off with Rumchata shots at Liz's house and then went to the Atlas Improv Comedy Show. They were performing theatre-sports and most of the improv they did was really funny (it's also where my entry title came from). I felt special because they used a lot of the suggestions I yelled out. My cousin got to be one of the judges and that was cool too.

We went to Plan B after and it was my first time at a dance club. Plan B is actually a gay bar, but there was at least one guy who kept hitting on the girls in our group. We got to see several boys in neon-colored underwear shaking their booties for dollars and Missy and I even joined in on that fun. We also got to see a drag show. It was my first time ever seeing one and it was definitely a highlight of the evening.

This song was a particular favorite. I wish I had a video of the queen's performance. It was hilarious.

After the dance club, we went to Le Tigre Lounge. This place could easily be Siegfried and Roy's retirement home. There were tiger pictures, tiger statues, etc. It was really gorgeous and the bartender made impressive cocktails. I had an old fashioned sweet with cherries. Mmm...yummy.

I will admit that even though I tried to mix water in with the drinking that I woke up not feeling so great today. An afternoon nap, Advil, water, and a caring hubby helped with that though.

Shortly after the wedding last year, it had been brought to my attention that Wizard World Comic Con was coming to the very state that I lived in. Nick and I purchased our advance tickets as well as tickets for 2 very important photo ops. One with Jason Mewes (Jay from the Jay and Silent Bob films). I am a total sucker for Jason and I think he's a cutie. The other op was with James Marsters. I have been waiting 13 years of my life to meet this man and I knew it would be worth every penny.

This Saturday, we finally got to put our purchases to use.

On December 1st, 2014...my husband and I became homeowners. Our new home is a block away from our current apartment and is right next door to my good friend and Zumba instructor, Lyndsey.

It's a cute ranch-style home that was built circa 1969. Most of the house has been "modernized," but I can attest from washing out the cupboards today that there's still a splash of the '60's that was left behind. :P

In the last two days, we have:
*Closed on the home
*Bought a new living room set (This will be the first time in our lives that we've had properly new furniture and not something that was given to us by a parent, sibling, or friend.)
*Put a coat of white paint on the walls and ceiling of our "library."
*Washed out the kitchen cabinets.
*Washed down the stove and dishwasher.
*Vacuumed the carpets.
*Used a Rug Doctor to clean the three rooms upstairs.

Tomorrow and Thursday, we will be spending more time painting and Rug Doctoring. Friday, my mom is coming up to help me box up our kitchen and move that over. Saturday is the big furniture moving day and we have a great crew coming up to help us.

In other news, Pizza Hut has a new menu. Today we decided to try the Pretzel Piggy. This is the ingredient breakdown for those interested: Creamy garlic Parmesan sauce topped with hardwood smoked bacon, fresh mushrooms and fresh spinach. Flavored up with a salted pretzel crust edge and balsamic sauce drizzle. I was quite impressed to see that Pizza Hut is branching out and trying different things. I'm eager to try some of their other new flavors.

I spent all day Saturday playing with my niece Lauren (she's 5). We built a snowman, we went to see Santa Claus, we ate ice cream, and we played Barbies.

Lauren was a big fan of having her dolls get married. I noticed that, just like my wedding, she always wanted a ring bearer, two flower girls and two bridesmaids for each ceremony.

The first wedding was between Rapunzel (Tangled) and Kristoff (Frozen).

The second wedding was when my niece showed me that she's learning acceptance from her parents.

She wanted Anna (Frozen) to get married, but didn't know who she should marry. Then, she picked up her Elsa doll and said "Punky (my nickname), girls can get married too."

I smiled and said: "You bet."

I didn't point out that sisters shouldn't get married, but I figured we'd cross that bridge when we needed to.
