Day 21 - Fanfiction: discuss
I’m a big proponent of fanfiction in fandom. It gives readers and writers the opportunity to take journeys that the shows they love don’t explore either because it’s alternative pairing, because it’s a comedy show that doesn’t really have a feel for its emotionally darker side, or because the writers just don’t care enough to give real credit to a pairing that works.
The Barney/Robin pairing, for example, is a really good demonstration of why fanfiction matters so damn much. Authors like![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
the_spin, secondmezzanine, idioticonion, stablergirl, solojones, and others gave us brilliant worlds where these characters’ feelings and emotions were explored and blended in a way that made sense to those of us who felt the TV writers failed. They are also a pairing that serves up great angst and hurt/comfort fics for those of us who like a little more grit in our romance/fluff.
Fanfiction also gives a platform to those of us, myself included, who prefer the non-canon pairings. We are the ones who see sexual tension between Barney and Ted. We are the ones who dream of a world where Barney and Lily literally are the World’s Greatest Couple. We are the ones who imagine what Robin tastes like when Lily presses her lips against the hollow of Robin’s throat.
Finally, without fanfiction, we would never have gotten to see Barney become a zombie. :P

Other News
1/ Nick and I made a delicious dinner of pasta, alfredo, and scallops last night.
2/ I watched last week's "Bones" and Monday night's "Castle" and throughly enjoyed both. The ending of "Bones" was made of total love and the Espositio/Ryan subtext just makes me squee.
3/ I've had a cough all week that just won't quit, but I'm really not keen on seeing a doc about it yet even if I'd really like relief. Why you ask? Because this is something I get once a year and they usually just check me over, tell me I have to wait until it goes away, and/or give me an antibiotic that screws up my Pill but doesn't really do anything for the cough.
4/ Contacted the HR manager on Monday for the Department of Voc. Rehab job and learned it would be another two weeks before they finished their process. I was mad at first, but now I just don't care. At least they haven't said no yet.

I still remember the fic you wrote where Robin and Lily do it before Lily gets married to Marshall. That was some awesome non-canon stuff which makes me really happy fanfic exists.
