Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] spike7451 for the lovely card. I adore the koala in the wreath. That's just the most cutest thing ever. :) Nick appreciated your wishes as well.

Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] sionnach_ayame for granting one of my Amazon.com wishes. I'm definitely looking forward to reading The Goddess Test. It looks like a really fun book.

We had a staff potluck at work today and it was awesome. There was slow cooker roasted turkey, cheesy potatoes, sweet potato casserole, loaded baked potato soup, gluten-free corn bread, Oreo truffles and plenty of other things that I didn't even get around to trying because I was stuffed. I brought in Bretzeli, which is a Swiss butter cookie that my family has been making for generations.

We also had staff recognition. The director and two DVR supervisors put a slideshow together to recognize all 40 staff. Some were silly (one guy was recognized for the "best I-lost-my-wedding-ring-in-an-hour story") and some were serious (my co-worker was recognized for being the newest counselor with the most successful closures.") I was recognized as the most recent-diamond recipient and also the most likely to have a "dalek" at my wedding. Lorie, my direct supervisor, knows all about my love of Doctor Who because she actually keeps a Dalek on the bookshelf in her office. She had asked me about my wedding plans the other day and I had mentioned that a friend of mine had offered to loan us a full-sized Dalek and my dad said he knew someone who could loan us a TARDIS (which is my actual preference.)

What was kinda fun though was that reveal led my friend, Katy, to tell me that her and her fiance are also big Who fans and they are going to have a cake topper featuring two penguins walking into a TARDIS. I thought that was super cute and I love that I'm finding fellow geeks in DVR! (Now, I just have to figure out where the Buffy and HIMYM fans are and I'll be set for life. :P)

~ The Decoy Bride

Nick and I went to the Taste of Portage Market Fair yesterday with some friends - Amber, Joe, and Meg. It was just a few blocks down from our apartment so it was an easy walk. The fair's activities included a food court that contained mostly local restaurants, an arts and crafts show, and a classic car show.

Amber and Joe had gone last year and they recommended we visit the Corner Pocket, especially since Amber had done some detective work and found out that Corner Pocket was doing beef brisket sandwiches this year. Without a doubt, the sandwiches were divine! The meat was tender and melted in your mouth, plus they had a selection of BBQ sauces to try. I sampled the Apple BBQ sauce and it had just the right amount of sweetness.

I also ate a cream puff and tried some of Meg's fries. MMM MMM Good. :)

There were plenty of classic cars to ogle so we spent a lot of time doing that. Meg and I spent quite a few minutes drooling over a Chevy Impala, but for the most part, I lusted after this bright blue Dodge Challenger with a white racing stripe down the side. I truly think that classic Challengers, especially the 1967 model, are the prettiest muscle cars in the world and I want one.

The crafts were fun to look at too. Meg picked up a cute ring that was made from a spoon, while I picked up this little guy for $8.00

He's not turned on at the moment, but he does light up )

That afternoon, Meg and I settled into the chill of my apartment and watched The Decoy Bride, which was definitely adorable. I definitely recommend it for anyone who loves David Tennant and/or romantic comedies. We also watched a bit of Doctor Who - Series 2 - 10th Doctor and some episodes from How I Met Your Mother Season 5.

For dinner, the whole group reunited and we went over to La Tolteca for some delicious Mexican food and some tasty drinks. I had a peach daiquiri and pork tamales. I also tried some of Joe's Chicken Mole (pronounced: "MOLE"-lay). It was a little spicier than I can normally handle, but I did enjoy the complexity of the flavor.

Then, we watched the fireworks that had been scheduled for the 4th of July, but got pushed back to August due to July's dry conditions.

It was a really great night.

I feel like I'm among the minority of HIMYM fans who actually liked tonight's episode and you know what? That really doesn't bother me because....

My darling friend [livejournal.com profile] maryfic is a new convert to the How I Met Your Mother fandom and has made it up to Season 5. If that wasn't awesome enough, she just wrote her first HIMYM ficlet (Barney/Robin) and dedicated it to me!! I'm positively tickled plaid by this because I think her story is super cute (and contains a reference to a personal favorite literary character.)

Go check it out and make sure to leave her comments. :)

1. I attended the Wisconsin Counseling Association's Fall Summit over the weekend and had the pleasure of running into old classmates, as well as running into folks from last year's summit who remembered me (sure, this was mostly just a kick-ass chick named Sabryn, but who cares? It's nice to be remembered.) This was a wonderful thing because it meant I had an automatic lunch buddy. There was also an amazing keynote speaker who spoke about celebrating the resilient self and his poignant and emotional story brought the room to tears.

2. I watched X-Men: First Class (Finally) and I enjoyed it. James McAvoy is totally adorable and Jennifer Lawrence makes a fantastic Mystique.

3. I'm nearly done with season 3 of Coupling and I heart the heck out of Gina Bellman. She's so good at hamming up her role.

4. I told several of my work colleagues at Pauquette about my move to the Department of Voc. Rehab. and discovered many of them feeling excited by that because they sometimes have to refer clients there and they're relieved to have a contact person that they'll know.

5. I finished my 50th book of the year (woo!) and started on 51.

6. Last night's How I Met Your Mother.

I had to go into the Democratic Party offices today because Liz needed her key back (I'd been in charge of the office yesterday. WOO!)

Anywho, Liz and I ended up chatting about things went the day before and how the new campaign has changed the atmosphere of the office a little, mostly because of the way Josh (the campaign manager) and Beau (campaign director) treat the office like a work place instead of a fun place.

At one point during our conversation, Liz looked at me and said: "Do you watch How I Met Your Mother?"

I said: "Yes." (while trying to hide a smile that would betray my obsessive fangirl-ness.)

She said: "I told Josh yesterday that he was giving me the Yips."

Can I just say how awesome it to hear references to my favorite shows during the course of my day?

Because it is. :D

Will I end up on top? You can bet on it, bet on it, bet on it. You can bet on me!

Yes...my LJ title is from High School Musical 2. I don't care if you judge me. I fully embrace my dorkiness.

Moving on...

It is absolutely chilly today. It’s currently -1*F (-18*C for my non-American friends) and our wind chill values are between -5*F and -10*F. It’s definitely one of those days where I’d rather stay inside with a warm mug of cocoa and a book, but alas I’m working for Power Packer.

Speaking of Power Packer, I totally forgot my headphones today so I don't get to listen to music. :/ I’ve also been informed that my time here is running out. The boss basically said that once I finish my massive data entry project, I’m done. I wager it will probably take me until the end of next week to finish though so at least I have a little more time to earn a paycheck.

In other news, I watched last night’s How I Met Your Mother and the Glee episode that aired after the Superbowl yesterday.

I absolutely loved HIMYM. Oh Honey )

Now for my Glee thoughts. The Sue Sylvester Shuffle )

Last but not least, I ordered a shirt from the Woot!Shirt Day of Reckoning two weeks ago and it came in the mail last Friday. I got the chance to wear it Sunday because I met my friend, Meg, for lunch. I loves it. :)
