Ugh! I'm so positive that I returned a book on Tuesday, but the library's online service still indicates me having the book checked out. It's not due until August 4th so I still have some time. But I've looked everywhere, including the temp. placement from Tuesday where I finished the book. I still can't escape the feeling that it went in the drop box with the other two books I returned, but how can I prove that?

I don't know what to do and I certainly can't afford the fees that I know will follow this if I don't find it.

ETA: Went to the library. Since the book was from another library, I have to wait to see if it comes in through their system. The librarian said to try back on Monday.

My dad had this happen to him once and found the book back on the shelf where it was supposed to be in the library--it just hadn't gotten checked back in correctly before it was reshelved. So that's probably worth trying.

We've had that happen a couple of times. It's entirely possible that it didn't get checked back in properly. If go in in person and talk to them they may be able to straighten it out.

I agree with the suggestion that you go in and talk to them.

I've had this happen before, and they found the book within a short time period.

I also once had a library book get destroyed while in my possession, and I was poor at the time. They happily wiped out my bill in exchange for the cliff notes to The Fairie Queen and a Pony Club manual. They'll work with you.

Hope they find the book, that happened to my Mum once, they sent a letter saying she hadn't returned the book, I knew she had as I take Mum to the library and I always keep the printout you get when you borrow and check off that we have all the books. When I rang them to say it had been returned they went and checked on the shelf and there it was, she apologised and said that the letters are automatically computer generated, so annoying.
