First, I need to give many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] angelus2hot for the shiny surprise of Buffy Season 5! My collection is now complete and I have you to thank for that. *squishes* :D

Second, have any of you read a biography on Eleanor Roosevelt? I joined a book discussion group and the schedule for the first three months goes as follows:
January - All The King's Men by Robert Penn Warren.
February - A biography on Eleanor Roosevelt (Reader's choice.)
March - Giant by Edna Ferber (which I was asked to lead so hopefully that will be fun.)

*I read 10 books in the month of January. Of the ten, the one I was most impressed with was Looking For Alaska by John Green. The one I was least impressed with was: Zen of Zombie by Scott Kennemore. I wanted to kick in his misogynistic face.

*I'm currently reading The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and I must admit that it's a book to be savored. I can't bring myself to read it quickly because I just don't want to leave her world yet.

*I've seen five movies so far this year (excluding my rewatch of Ghostbusters because I'm trying to only list new movies.)

*I got a Kindle Keyboard with a shiny green book cover. I already have three books loaded onto it and plan to read one of them as soon as I finish The Night Circus.

*I have been watching That 70's Show on Netflix Instant Streaming, but I couldn't even finish Season 4 because of Netflix's stupid expiration dates on stuff and because I was having trouble getting things to buffer correctly.
Up until this past weekend, I hadn't had much issue with buffering, but now, it takes an hour just to watch a 20 minute show. And it's not just Netflix either. My whole damn internet has been slowed down dramatically. Nick, who is also on the same connection, is not having an issue with speed so it's clearly just my computer's fault. We ran virus scans last night, but they found nothing. It could possible be a RAM issue since I only have 512 MB of it on my 11-year old computer.
I wish I knew how to fix this slowness problem because it's really ticking me off.

Sorry to end a mostly shiny list on a sour note, but that's just the way it goes.

Nick and I did Christmas celebrations with his mom, sister, brother-in-law, and 1-year old niece and all and all I'd say it was a decent time.

Christmas in July. I mean...January. Did I mention I didn't have to wear a coat today and I live in Wisconsin? WTH? )

This is my place to keep track of all the books I read in the year 2011. My New Year's Resolution is to read at least 50.

Ugh! I'm so positive that I returned a book on Tuesday, but the library's online service still indicates me having the book checked out. It's not due until August 4th so I still have some time. But I've looked everywhere, including the temp. placement from Tuesday where I finished the book. I still can't escape the feeling that it went in the drop box with the other two books I returned, but how can I prove that?

I don't know what to do and I certainly can't afford the fees that I know will follow this if I don't find it.

ETA: Went to the library. Since the book was from another library, I have to wait to see if it comes in through their system. The librarian said to try back on Monday.

Since this has worked out well for me before:
[Poll #1677206]

And now for a brief work rant. There's a new temp in the office helping out with the Accounting department (so NOT my area of expertise) because one of our Accounts Receivable folks is leaving in March to move to Wyoming.

Since learning some of the ropes, they've moved him into my cubicle so I work next to him all day. He seems like a nice guy. He's married, has three kids who have graduated and have lives and all that. But here's what irks me. The man never takes a break. I've never seen him stop working, not even when the break/lunch buzzer rings (ah, the joys of factory work.) I really wish he would though. He makes me feel guilty for being the occasional procrastinator and I don't like that feeling so much.

Dear Mom and Dad )

Next on the list is my to-read list for 2011 (well, the start of it anyways. There will be more besides this, otherwise I'd never reach my goal.)

I'm too lazy to make a poll, but feel free to chime in about which book should be my next priority.

It has begun!

I'd like to start by thanking those who commented on my earlier entry. I'm glad to know there's some interest in this.

I'd also like to thank [livejournal.com profile] lilbreck for the name suggestion.

I've noticed that several folks on my flist have the resolution to read 50 books in the year 2011 and so I was thinking we should make a community so that we can discuss our progress and the awesome books we're reading, etc.

What do the rest of you think?

PS. Please feel free to suggest names.

Once again, I leave the future of my next reading adventure to all of you as I apparently suck a little at choosing.
