I was outside for gym class my sophomore year of high school so we didn't hear the announcement over the loud speaker system. When I got back in the building, I changed into my regular clothes and headed to my Ancient History class where we were having a test.

Our teacher told us we'd be having the test in a room that was fitted with a TV and I found myself a bit confused by that since I didn't know what had happened. When I first saw the news footage, I thought I was watching an action-adventure film and I remember making an off-hand remark to my teacher about that.

She explained what had happened, I nodded because I still wasn't sure what to make of it all. I inevitably spent the whole day sitting in the Drama Lecture Hall watching the footage over and over again on a huge projection screen because none of my teachers thought we'd be able to concentrate on learning.

I can't imagine that you'd be able to study, no.

Huh. Different memories I guess. None of my teachers let their classes watch any footage all day. The first stuff I saw was when I got home with Miyuki. I saw 20 minutes in study hall, but they kicked me out of the library..I guess kids weren't supposed to be watching and it was on for the staff.

Would you have been able to? Concentrate, I mean?

I think I would have been able to.

It's interesting to hear how your experience differed given that we were in the same building.

I think I would have rather sat through lectures, to be honest. Watching the same footage over and over again just didn't feel...I hate to say it...productive.

See...the thing is, I really would have preferred to be studying.

We were on a boat trip from School around Denmark and when we came back from a trip to the city to buy some stuff there was a TV on deck and the news was on...I have to admit I was thinking it was just a movie as well but soon I realized that sadly it wasn't.

I was in my second period English class when we heard the news. As far as I can remember, we watched some of the footage, but went back to class. I knew that it was something very bad, but didn't feel very sad because it wasn't effecting anyone I knew directly. Later, it was astonishing to learn how many people died because of it.

I was getting ready for work. Thomas called me and told that the Pentagon had been bombed. I thought he was joking at first. I turned the TV on and watched the Towers fall. My pseudo-sis was supposed to be at the Pentagon that day, but she wasn't and my bosses' in-laws who were visiting family in NYC had visited the WTC the day before the attacks.

It took me an hour and half to get myself together enough to get to work and then I spent the day at the front desk praying that we'd hear from R's in-laws to let us know they were okay.

My mom and grandma were in Hallifax, Nova Scotia visiting the Fort when they got the news...

I agree that it didn't feel sad at first. It just felt bad.

I can't even imagine what it would have been like if I knew someone who was out that way.

I know right. Darn HUHS and it's crazy inconsistencies.

So, you still took your test even though they were showing the news in the same room?
