Snogged: An Insatiable State of Mind

You know- when I mumbled to Nick yesterday that I didn't want to go to work today...I really didn't want to be taken literally.

In other words, I'm sitting at my desk at Power Packer with nothing to do and it seems clear to me that unless something falls into my lap, they're most likely going to send me home.

Seeing as I'm only with PP for two weeks, I'm not happy about this development because it means I won't be getting paid as much.

Do you remember me telling you about my new coworker at Power Packer? The temp who never seems to take a break?

Yeah...well, that doesn't bother me about him anymore. What bothers me now is the way he eats while sitting at his desk. It's this constant lip-smacking that's reminiscent of Lily's abnormally loud chewing from the episode "Spoiler Alert" on How I Met Your Mother.

It makes me want to scream.

Would it be wrong of me to hide his food?

Will I end up on top? You can bet on it, bet on it, bet on it. You can bet on me!

Moving on...

It is absolutely chilly today. It’s currently -1*F (-18*C for my non-American friends) and our wind chill values are between -5*F and -10*F. It’s definitely one of those days where I’d rather stay inside with a warm mug of cocoa and a book, but alas I’m working for Power Packer.

Speaking of Power Packer, I totally forgot my headphones today so I don't get to listen to music. :/ I’ve also been informed that my time here is running out. The boss basically said that once I finish my massive data entry project, I’m done. I wager it will probably take me until the end of next week to finish though so at least I have a little more time to earn a paycheck.

In other news, I watched last night’s How I Met Your Mother and the Glee episode that aired after the Superbowl yesterday.

Last but not least, I ordered a shirt from the Woot!Shirt Day of Reckoning two weeks ago and it came in the mail last Friday. I got the chance to wear it Sunday because I met my friend, Meg, for lunch. I loves it. :)

And now for a brief work rant. There's a new temp in the office helping out with the Accounting department (so NOT my area of expertise) because one of our Accounts Receivable folks is leaving in March to move to Wyoming.

Since learning some of the ropes, they've moved him into my cubicle so I work next to him all day. He seems like a nice guy. He's married, has three kids who have graduated and have lives and all that. But here's what irks me. The man never takes a break. I've never seen him stop working, not even when the break/lunch buzzer rings (ah, the joys of factory work.) I really wish he would though. He makes me feel guilty for being the occasional procrastinator and I don't like that feeling so much.

In other news, I'm bored as a gourd at Power Packer today. I've completely run of out of projects and although Kari promised to give me more stuff to do, she hasn't delivered yet. :/

I'm bored out of my gourd at work today as I've pretty much finished all the projects I've been working on. Technically, I've got more rack labels to make, but apparently, they need a different size and orientation than the template I've currently been working off of. This means, I need to track down Greg the engineer (who designed the original template) and see if he can help me. But...he's in a meeting right now and lunch is in about nine minutes (for everyone but me, because I watch the phones and eat at 12:30. I call it my slightly-weak effort to make it feel like the afternoon is shorter. This doesn't always work.)

*sigh*

Guess I'll just have to surf the web for a little while longer. :P

Last night was the Power Packer holiday party and I would have to say it was a lot of fun! We got there right at 5:30, which is when cocktail hour was starting, and plenty of other employees were already there with their 3 drink tickets already in hand. Guess I'm not the only one who follows the motto: early is on time, on time is (fashionably) late. :)

So Nick ordered a Brandy Old-Fashioned and I got an Amaretto Sour and we talked to Greg, one of the engineers, and his girlfriend, Kayla. Kayla seemed wonderfully sweet and we totally had one of those: girls-go-to-the-bathroom-in-packs moments, only we didn't apply make-up or talk about boys or anything. It was just one of those things that Greg ended up teasing us about.

The food was pretty delicious. I had salmon in a dill sauce and Nick got the Prime Rib (the slices were way too huge for me. They covered half the damn plate.) My favorite part was the red potatoes though. Mmmm...goodness.

During dinner, there were plenty of 12-year-old moments as Virginia, one of the cell leads, started cracking jokes about her cones getting fixed. This went on to me revealing all the things I'd found funny since I started working there and we had plenty of laughs about those too.

After dinner was the raffle and I did end up winning something. :) I got a hooded-sweatshirt that says "Fight Like A Girl" and it has the breast cancer awareness ribbon beside it. I also got a matching beanie. It's super cute and way comfy.

Then there was dancing, though there weren't a lot of people on the floor. In fact, I was the only one dancing to Taio Cruz's "Dynamite" for about 2 minutes because I apparently have no shame. :) I was rescued though by Virginia who didn't want me to dance alone. It seemed to me that the only dances that really got people out on the floor were the slow dances, country songs, and polkas. But my favorite part was when all the wives of the corporate men came out and danced to Flo Rida's "Get Low."

Good times, my friends, good times.

Okay...so I don't know how many of you know this, but I need to start by saying that I'm still at Power Packer (at least until the end of Janauary.) Pauquette was merely being kind to me by letting me know I got the job, but the way I understand it, they're still up to their ears in credentialing paperwork and they still need to hire an occupational therapist.

I'm not too frustrated about it though because my conversations with Power Packer and Pauqette last week have led me to believe there's an end/beginning in sight. And at least, I'm making some sort of money right now so that's good too.

Anyway, I'm admittedly only doing a half-hearted job at work today as I've got several fic projects in the work that are distracting me from the agony of data entry (one is a sequel to my Angelus/Riley fic: Freedom Isn't Free and the other is a Spillow adventure set during Season 5 of Angel.) But what I find really funny is, just a few minutes ago, my boss came over to my workspace and told me I was being too studious and should take a break. Little did she know...I had been as I was writing fic. *g* But, still, we had a nice chat and I've learned some more information about the holiday party they're having this weekend. I'm looking forward to that.

+ Had my follow-up interview with Pauquette today. The day treatment coordinator seemed extremely nice and we had a good discussion about my skills and her plans to get this pilot program up and running. She seemed to really dig my previous experience working with day treatment programs so win on that. :)
I will say that I had to bite my tongue when she handed me the outline she'd created to pass out to schools because there was a grammatical error (misuse of apostrophes). I didn't feel it was my place to point that out.

+ I have a short day at work today since I had to take the morning off. Doesn't mean it's dragging any less normal, however. *sigh*

+There's a guy at work today who failed to button up his shirt all the way and it's a bit...gross. That look is really only okay if you're wearing paisley, gold bling, and disco shoes and even then...it's still gross.

+Nick and I are now finished with the first eight episodes of the Wire. It was good when we started, but it's even better now.

+I'm going to see "White Christmas" (the theatrical production, not the film) in Chicago this weekend. I'm really looking forward to it.

+Finally, Nick and I get to celebrate our first of five "Christmases" on Sunday as we're hanging out with his mom, his sister, her husband, and her daughter (Nick's neice) on Sunday. It shall be good times.

I'm totally hooked on the song "Longest Road to Nowhere (the DownTempo remix)" by Morgan Page right now. It's just freaking gorgeous. Another song I'm loving right now is "Something's Gotta Give" off of Christian Kane's new album.

Anyways, yesterday I had the day off from Power Packer so I could focus my energies on my phone interview and on my Wisconsin Early Autism Project (WEAP) face-to-face interview.
