Upstairs Neighbors Suck
Nov. 15th, 2007 09:22 amOver the years, I've never really had a problem with neighbors. Most of them have been pretty respectful, particularly during the late hours of the evening (aka between 11 PM - 6 AM).
This semester has been a little bit different but its been mostly tolerable until last night. The folks who live above me decided to start playing loud, bass booming music at about 3:30 AM CST. Typically, when they've done this a few times before, I transfer from the bedroom to my living room and the white noise of my fridge drowns out the sound from upstairs allowing me to keep sleeping.
Last night, my fridge decided not to provide me with its wonderful white noise and after an hour and a half of tossing and turning and trying to drown out the sound with another pillow, I felt even more pissed and more discouraged. I wake up at 7:15 AM for work and I like getting my sleep, darnit. I considered calling the cops but I really wasn't in the mood to deal with that so I opted to walk upstairs and knock on the door.
The girl answered and I politely asked her to turn the music down a notch.
She initially argued that it "wasn't that loud."
But I pointed out that I could hear it through my ceiling/their floor.
She promised to turn it down and I returned to my apartment.
They did turn it down which was nice but at that point, my body was on edge and falling back to sleep was proving improbable.
Why can't people go to sleep at normal times on a weekday? I mean, seriously, these kids are college students. Don't they have class?
*sigh*
I think if this happens again, I will be getting the police involved.

on 2007-11-15 04:47 pm (UTC)We had the people upstairs complain to us once, but never anyone downstairs. The thing is, we weren't playing music late, it was like 6PM or so.
Noise doesn't bother me too much, I could sleep through a tornado. But it would really suck to be a light sleeper and live in an apartment building...hope things work out for you though so can get some sleepies.

on 2007-11-15 07:25 pm (UTC)That would work if my TV picked up the PBS channel but sadly, it doesn't.

on 2007-11-15 07:28 pm (UTC)Something about the boyfriend is incredibly calming.
And it was more of an early morning music session. It started at 3:30 and I tried to shut it out. I walked up there at 5 AM because I just couldn't stand it anymore.

on 2007-11-15 07:29 pm (UTC)My boyfriend dealt with a girl who lived above him who had zero respect for anyone living around here. People on the street could hear that girl's music. She has thankfully left though and it would be great if my upstairs neighbors could promptly do the same.
