Jan. 27th, 2012 04:56 pmI had a young man (19) with Asperger's come into my office today with his dad and his job developer. He was dressed head to toe in black with large black sunglasses that hid the part of his face that his chin length black hair couldn't. At the start he was fairly withdrawn, only commenting that he wanted to make enough money to attend an anime convention. I said: ACen? And that seemed to earn me some brownie points. But the best part was probably when his job developer was reviewing his log in information for the Job Center website (because my client had forgotten) and said his favorite quote was: "I am the Doctor." I instantly hazard a guess that it was Dr. Who and immediately stood up, stepped towards me a few inches and requested a high five. I granted it and he said: "Awesome."
I know the gist of my job at Vocational Rehabilitation is discussing obtaining, maintaining, or advancing in employment, but damn, it's Friday so why not make it a little bit more fun, right? :D
