So, I've been watching the second season of Angel and it's making me think about something.

We know that Angel's human name was Liam and he was given his new name by Darla. And Darla was given her name by The Master but it's not her human name.

So what I want to know is: did Angel give Drusilla her name or was that her birth name?

And Spike's human name was William but he's also called William as a vampire.

Is it a custom for vampires to give their childer new names or does it only happen sometimes?

hmm, that's interesting. i never thought about that before. i can't remember being able to hear anyone referring to her as Drusilla before she was sired, so maybe Angelus did give her the name, but she was too crazy to do the same for Spike so he chose his own?

Well we know that William earned the nickname of Spike by torturing victims with railroad spikes.

It's possible that he left some villagers alive in the town where he was sired and they passed the name on.
