A/N: Holiday ficlet forsong_of_winter who requested cute and sweet without angst. Sorry this is late dear, I hope you like it.
Gabrielle liked it when their paths crossed. Iolaus always made her laugh and it was nice to spend time with someone who understood the sidekick gig. And to top it all off, he was adorable.
Gabrielle relaxed against the oak tree, sipping some mead and watching Xena and Hercules banter back and forth. Iolaus sat beside her, idly rubbing a blade of grass between his fingers.
Suddenly, a bright flash of pink erupted in front of them. Aphrodite grinned at the pair of sidekicks. “Isn’t this the cutest?”
Gabrielle and Iolaus looked up at the goddess of love in annoyance. Her appearance always seemed to put a damper on quiet afternoons.
“What do you want, Aphrodite?” Iolaus said.
Aphrodite grinned. “Well, I want love for all the world, silly. And you two are just radiating. So what’s the wait, kid? Why don’t you just kiss her already?”
Gabrielle was stunned. Iolaus had feelings for her? She had feelings for him but she could never have imagined he returned them. She always thought he had a thing for Xena.
“Well, I…” Iolaus stuttered, chewing on his bottom lip.
“Well I what?” Aphrodite asked, arching a perfect eyebrow. “She likes you too.”
Iolaus turned to face Gabrielle and grinned. Gabrielle fought back a giggle. He looked a bit like a doofus but a very cute one.
“I had no idea,” Iolaus said.
“Neither did I,” Gabrielle replied.
The two sidekicks leaned forward and kissed one another hesitantly.
Aphrodite turned to Xena and Hercules and grinned happily. “See, I told you it would work.”
