As a teenager, I did experience inner turmoil and depression, though I don't see it as being related to my sexual orientation, per se. I think it's part of that whole development process that everyone deals with in different ways, depending on their personality and their environment. I did struggle with my self-esteem and the person I saw when I looked into the mirror. I worried about whether or not love would ever find me. I held the irrational fear that I would die a virgin. I was too afraid to harm myself because I didn't want my parents to find out about it, but I knew plenty of others who did (including my girlfriend, Sarah). I did, however, spend some time in therapy, but the woman I met with was a heinous bitch and I barely told her anything.
As I headed into my college years, these internal struggles no longer held me in the same tight grip. While I haven't attained full stability, I do feel more self-assured and self-confident in who I am and what I want to be. I fully embrace my definition of sexuality and have explored realms that piqued my interest. I'm a woman, a feminist, a sexual enthusiast, a nerd, a geek, a bookworm and I'm damn proud of it.
