snoggedDay Four: A female character you relate to
Willow Rosenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
It would take more than fingers and toes to point out how many times I've talked about Willow and her influence on my life.
For those who don't know, I found Willow in middle school/junior high because of my friend, Rachel. After watching a few episodes, Rachel deemed herself Buffy, I became Willow, and our close friend Nicholas became Xander. Once I'd been nicknamed, I started to observe her character more than I had and realized that Rachel was spot-on in her assessment.
I was a nerd, a bookworm, and a social wallflower with a tendency towards genuineness and compassion. I had a hard time to talking to boys that I had a crush on and when I did it was an instant disaster. I longed for an Oz to call my own (and I sorta think I found him now given my boyfriend's tendency to be stoic, nerdy, and Zen.) I started looking into other religions from the one I raised in and did get involved with a few girls in school who practiced Wicca. I didn't stick to that one very long, but I did discover I had my own brand of spirituality once I hit college (I call myself an Agnostic with an Earth-based spirituality).
In high school, I met Sarah (around the same time Willow met Tara actually.) At first, I didn't know what it meant to like like a girl because my parents had never really talked about homosexuality, but Willow helped me figure that out and Sarah and I dated for a month.
In late high school/college, I found myself gaining Willow's confidence (though thankfully not her magic/drug addiction) and growing in my own journey.
My relationship and feelings with Willow helped me become the woman I am today so I'm grateful for that.
