Christmas Weekend Wrap-Up

Ah, Christmas. Can I just that as wonderful a time as it is that I'm really glad it's over?
If I were to sum up my Christmas weekend in three words, they would be: busy, exhausting, and fun.
On Saturday, Nick and I packed up the car and drove down to my parents' house. We got there in time for lunch and had Works burgers on pretzel buns. I was proud of myself because I only ate half a sandwich and some grapes because I knew we'd be eating a ton of food at my aunt's later that night and I didn't want to overdo it. We attended the family Christmas church service as we are prone to do every year and then we headed to my aunt Debbie's (my mom's sister). There was a vast assortment of appetizers to eat in addition to the cheesy potatoes and hot ham sandwiches we had for dinner. I gorged myself on spinach and artichoke dip, ham and pickle roll-ups, pepperoni pizza dip, crackers and cheese spread, and bacon-wrapped potatoes. Mmm...nummy. I also had a chance to see Nick interacting with small children, which is both super rare on account of him disliking kids in general and also amusing. After we left my aunt's, we went back to my parents' and worked out the sleeping arrangements for 8 adults and two small children. Nick and I got the pull-out sofa in the living room, which is lumpy and uncomfortable so I ended up not sleeping so well, but it's better than the futon in the basement so that's a positive. Once that was settled, we watched National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.
On Christmas morning, we opened presents. My mom and dad got me a pair of dress pants, a sweater, a cute top, a set of Pyrex dishware, and the movie Bridesmaids. My sister Mary gave me the book: The Night Circus and gave Nick and I copies of the games: Apples to Apples and Farkle. My sister Katie gave me a super cozy black vest from Tommy Hilfiger. I don't really care about the brand name, but it's definitely warm!
Christmas afternoon, the relatives on my dad's side came over, we ate more food, and my cousin Missy introduced me to the "Crazy Cat Lady" game, which was awesome and hilarious. I was quite proud of myself when I won the game too. :P We did a "Secret" Santa exchange and my aunt Susie gave me a tan vest (also warm and cozy) and Patrick Swayze's memoir (Time of My Life.)
Christmas evening, some relatives from my mom's side came over to pass some attention onto my sister Mary who was born on Christmas. My cousin Christina gave me a gift since she had my name in the Secret Santa exchange for my mom's side of the family and hadn't been able to be at my aunt's on Christmas eve. She did a cooking theme and included her four favorite recipes along with most of the ingredients (including a pound of ground beef and a bag of boneless, skinless chicken breasts!) I'm excited to give the recipes a try and I think Nick and I are going to do the meatloaf one on Thursday since it sounds awesome and seems slightly different from the one my mom taught to me make.
The day after Christmas was my mom's birthday so we went shopping, went for a walk, and went to Chili's for dinner. I had baked potato soup and an avocado burger. SOOO GOOD!
Nick and I had to leave for home right after dinner and I was pooped when we got back. Let's just say it was a whole load of no fun having to go to work today, but at least it's a short week. Only two more days of work to go! WOO!
In addition to all the craziness, I somehow managed to catch up with most of the entries on my flist today, though I did have to bookmark a few fics and I hope to have the chance to read them later (most likely over the weekend since I have a four-day one!!)
I also managed to get two drabbles written for my
noel_of_spike day tomorrow. I was hoping to get to all 5 prompts, but time really got away from me so I apologize for not getting them done and I hope people will forgive me for that. I do promise to work on all of my currently existing prompts though and post those drabbles when I finish them.
