I feel like I'm among the minority of HIMYM fans who actually liked tonight's episode and you know what? That really doesn't bother me because....

I'm telling you. As a still recovering Ugly Betty fan, I am fucking ecstatic to have Becki Newton gracing the frames of one of my favorites TV shows. She's snarky, she's sassy, and I have a sorta girl crush on her so I totally get why Barney would have a crush on her as well. :P I honestly can't wait to see how her storyline develops.

Bring it on, writers!

I just replied to your comment over at B/R, and... well, obviously we're gonna be in the minority over there! SIGH. They're never going to find anything to like about third parties; they're gonna bash them until they leave, but what can ya do?

I've seen maybe one episode of "Ugly Betty" and don't really remember anything about any of the characters or actors, but I adored Becki Newton's Quinn on HIMYM last night. I am really excited to see how her character's arc plays out, and what it will mean for Barney and the group. Her introduction was really well done, and I think if the writers had spent as much brainpower on Quinn as they'd done on Robin and Kevin's relationship, the show would be in a better place with the fans right now. BUT BACK TO QUINN AND HER AWESOMENESS. I mean, really. We already have insight into her motivations, what kind of person she is, her level of intelligence and ability to manipulate, and she's already been built into the show's mythology. I AM SO PSYCHED FOR THIS.

BRING IT.

I do my best to find something to like about third parties, though I often wish the writers would take the time to flesh new characters out a bit instead of just taking the ooh-Barney-has-feelings-shock approach (also know as the ooh-Robin-might settle-for-a-nice guy-that's-not-Barney-or-Ted approach.)

YAY FOR QUINN BEING AWESOME ALREADY!!!

Didn't they all go in hating Quinn? Literally as soon as she was announced as a love interest for Barney, they were down on her. It actually got kind of ridiculous, how many GTFO Quinn posts there were before she had a single second of sceentime.

I guess a lot of the people are young though, and this is probably their first fandom experience or whatever, so what can you do?

That wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

And yeah, I know a majority of fans are pretty young, but still....

Yeah...that's what bothered me about it, too. I mean, it's fine for people to hate a character if they are portrayed as snotty/bitchy/selfish or whatever, but it was terribly judgemental for a character to get instant hate before they've even appeared onscreen...just because they are a love interest.

Oh well...it looks like the comm just turned from the "I Hate Nora/Kevin Club" to the "I Hate Quinn Club"...

I've only just seen it, because it's so much harder to download anything since Megaupload went!

But I LOVED THIS EPISODE! I loved every part of it. My heart is starting to sink every time I read the BarneyRobin comm threads. Do we need to start making "positive only" threads again?

I love that Quinn is a stripper. I can't wait to see how that challenges Barney's preconceptions of women.

I know! I'm sad about the loss of MU.

YAY! I'm so glad you dug this episode too. But then again, you were always the one to challenge me to write Robin/Ted when the Robin/Barney stuff was heating up on the show so I'm sure that's part of your appreciation. :P

Yay for Stripper!Quinn!

I totally buy Robin/Ted at this point. I actually even buy Robin/Kevin - I understand totally why Robin wanted a future with a lovely guy who loved her. Obviously Robin/Ted is doomed, we know that, but it's another backslide they have to work through right now.

I absolutely adore Barney/Quinn and I want the writers to take it to challenging places.

I like Barney/Quinn too.

Didn't care for the rest of the episode much, but it had nothing to do with Robin/Ted or Quinn. Becki Newton is totes mah girl!

I adored the episode too, and actually thought Quinn was the highlight. She was smart and clever and funny, and I'm really psyched to see where they take the storyline.

I don't post much on the comm anymore, for that reason. Clearly there's a lot of negativity around and I suspect that if I wrote about what I truly thought of last night's episode (including the Kevin/Robin stuff), I'd probably get grenades thrown at my head.

But onto the positive - best part was the crazy thoughts running through my head as soon as Barney fell asleep on Ted's shoulder. ;)
