I believe I can fly.
“Diddley….”
Tom’s fingers wiggle spasmodically in front of her face, distracting her from the muted, flashy images of this week’s Jersey Shore. She rolls her eyes instinctively, but she can’t help but feel a bit of amusement over his ardent enthusiasm to teach her his not-so-secret handshake.
“We’re not doing this tonight, Tom. Not when you have Bugs Bunny music playing in the background.”
Instantly affronted, Tom frowns. “This is not Bugs Bunny music, boo. R. Kelly is a classical poet. A lover of lyrics. A soother of souls. You just gotta relax, boo. Let the man slide inside of you.”
A lecherous grin splits open his face and he nudges her thigh with his own, leaning over to give her a smooch.
“Or you could let me do all the sliding?”
Ann groans, turning her head away from Tom’s spit-slick lips.
“Just…teach me the handshake.”
Tom sighs, leaning back against the couch in mild defeat. “All right, Ann-bear. Just remember, it’s like my pal, R. Kelly says: if you can see it, you can do it. If you just believe it, there’s nothing to it.”
“Right,” Ann replies, pursing her lips and half-heartedly moving her fingers into position.
“Diddley…”
Her fingers wiggle too fast and he narrows his eyes.
“Diddley…”
Her fingers wiggle too slow.
“Diddley…”
Her fingers catch his, linking them together. The interruption bothers him at first, but he’s a playa’ and playas play on. Instead of giving her five, he closes the space between them and finally gets that kiss he had been trying for just as R. Kelly launches the word “Fly” into a daring crescendo of unadulterated awesomeness.
“Swag.”

on 2012-03-26 02:39 am (UTC)I'm also glad that I stumbled upon this challenge at the "Not My Ship" Comment-A-Thon as it gave me the excuse to try something different.
Most importantly, though, I'm glad you think I got Tom's character here.
