Yesterday was most definitely a food day for me because we decided to celebrate Nick's birthday this weekend (even though, technically, we're both off on Monday in honor of said birthday.) We hung out with great people and had (mostly) great food too so that made it feel worth it.

It started off with Nick's dad coming up for a visit. We went to the Hitching Post, which is a saloon and eatery in town. The Hitching Post came under new management about a month or so ago. The people who bought it used to run Let's Eat, which was a pretty decent restaurant that closed because the landlord was a douche. I knew going in that they revised the whole menu. Honestly...I wish they hadn't. I mean, don't get me wrong, my soup and trips to salad bar resulted in yummy food, but it just wasn't the same. I missed seeing (and eating) the Reuben wrap and the wild mushroom ravioli on the menu. Parting can be such sweet sorrow, I guess. I'm sure that in time, I'll come to enjoy the New Hitching Post for what it is, but I think it's going to take awhile.

Our second meal of the day resulted in piling my walking buddy, Amber, and her husband Joe into the backseat of my two-door Cavalier and driving to Wisconsin Dells. Nick's favorite restaurant in the world is Taste of New Orleans. They serve a lot of Cajun and Creole dishes and I don't tend to do well with those spices, but I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu and it was amazing! They added shrimp and crab to the mixture as well as this cheese sauce that was truly delicious.

The only downside to the trip was that our waitress was a bit of a bumbling idiot. She took our drink order, didn't bring out drinks for a good 15 minutes or so. When she brought the drinks, she jiggled the tray or something because all of a sudden our table (and Amber) were soaked in my sweet tea. We were moved to a different table and it took her another 15 minutes to bring me a new one. Unfortunately, it didn't have the Louisiana Sweet Tea taste I was expecting. It seemed pretty weak in the flavor department. Still, I drank it because at least it was something. Little things like this continued throughout our meal, which was kind of a bummer, and I sure as heck got touched a lot (shoulder, small of my back, shoulder again, head.) I don't mind some touchy-feely stuff, but it seemed a little over-the-top at times.

The saving graces though was this woman who appeared to be either a bus woman or a hostess who would pass by our table and crack jokes. The chef also came out and said that the chicken cordon bleu was his favorite dish and he wanted to see if I liked it. This was then followed up with Joe surprising us by footing the entire bill, which was so nice of him!

After dinner, we went back to Amber and Joe's house. In some ways, I feel like Amber and I connect like whoa. In fact, I think the funniest part of the night, was that we ended up talking about fanfiction. She's not a huge fan of fanfiction, but she has read a few in the Buffy fandom. She said she knew of one that I was sure to like that was about Willow and Spike and the title was TEA.... All of a sudden, I knew just what she was talking about: "The Erotic Adventures of Willow and Spike."

It blew Amber's mind hole that I knew that. :P

I guess, tonight we're going back over to Amber and Joe's and they're making ribs on the grill.

Should be tasty!

Maybe the waitress had the hots for you and that's why she was so klutzy and touchy...

Glad at least the food was yummy and hurrah that your friend knows about fanfiction!

LOL.
That is possible.

Though the chef and bus woman/hostess touched my shoulder at least once.

Yeah, I thought the fanfic thing was neat. :P

I'm sorry the restaurant experiences weren't up to their usual standards, but I'm glad the food was still tasty and that y'all had a good time!

Happy Birthday, Nick!
