I'm going to start by saying that I normally get along very well with my co-worker. Part of this is because, she is essentially the only person in the office I can consult with on cases on days that aren't Tuesday mornings when my supervisor comes. Part of this is because I genuinely think of her as a friend.

However...

Today, I wanted to sucker punch her in the face.

We had a staff meeting in the Madison office (basically, this is where Voc Rehab Central is and us outlying counties drive there for staff meetings once a month.) I was the one to drive because B drove last month.

After the meeting, we decided to grab lunch and B asked another counselor to join us. The agreement was the other counselor would follow me to the restaurant.

Admittedly, B knows Madison that we were on better than me so I obviously relied on her for directions. I will also admit since it's probably relevant, that I have some anxiety with driving due to the accidents I've been in and the fact that I don't like driving in big cities. Madison definitely qualifies as a big city, but the area we were in wasn't so bad.

We got to a stoplight where I had to make a right turn. It's legal to make a right-hand turn on a red light in Wisconsin, however, I had someone following me so I wanted to be respectful and wait before I pulled out. B pointed out that I could make a "right turn on red" and I respectfully declined.

When we got to the restaurant, we pulled into the parking lot and she had the audacity to tell me that I seemed "scared" and she said she could drive from now on.

I pointed out that the reason I waited at the red light was to give the other counselor a chance to follow us instead of getting 3-4 blocks ahead. I also said that I didn't appreciate her being a backseat driver.

Ugh!

Believe me when I say that I hope I never have to follow her car anywhere. I'd be bound to get horribly lost!

Well, that was rather rude of her. I think it was pretty decent of you to wait until the light changed so the person following you could keep up.

I totally understand your anxiety driving in big cities. I'm not overly fond of it myself and there are certain sections of Denver that I refuse to drive in.

Yeah. I'm really not sure where her response came from. It seemed uncalled for.

Glad I'm not the only one who gets twitchy in big cities.

I've always hated that when I am in a car following someone that the other driver doesn't ensure that we're close behind them because if you don't know where you're going, it can be a bad thing if the other driver gets too far ahead of you.

I think you did a good thing and B was being rude.

Exactly!
It sucks to the one following.

That woman obviously had no consideration for the person she invited to follow you.

Yeah, I know. The funny part is B invited the person to join us!

That is rude and uncalled for on her part. My stars! You have my permission to kick her shins!

Recently I had to follow some people to a location in a city I was unfamiliar with. The knew I was relying on them. Nevertheless they sped away so quickly that I immediately lost them. I was so furious and annoyed. Then we went to a second location-- SAME thing happened. I immediately lose respect for the person who was driving (I didn't know that particular person very well at the time, so they could've made a better impression...).

Point being: I think you definitely did the right thing-- you were being safe and courteous, and she can SHUT HER MOUTH, YO. (Sorry, I got a little too passionate)

Well I'm certain it wasn't appreciated but cars and driving are a touchy subject for some people and I'm sure she didn't mean to come off as rude.

You could look on the bright side of not having to drive anymore?

Ah, but you see when we got in the car to go home after lunch, she said she was thinking about driving separately to our staff meetings now.

I have a question? The car you were driving was your car or the job car? Because in the first case, your coworker would have been even more a bitch that I thought at the first ^_^

It was my car.
We don't have a company car.

I'm not a fan of both big city driving and following when you don't know where you are going, so I feel your pain.
