Secret Daughter: A Novel by Shilpi Somaya GowdaMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book took me on a journey and then blew me out of the water.
Gowda seriously did a lot of amazing things with book. She tells the story with warmth and compassion. She led me through California and India with descriptions so vivid that it was easy to see these places in my mind...and it was easier for my heart to break as Asha discovered the struggles of children living in the slums of India.
Each chapter provided the perspective of another character (usually it was the top three gals - Asha, Somer, Kavita; but Jasu, Krishnan, and Sarla got a chance to share their voices too.) I like that each character had dimensions and flaws that could make you root for them or boo them just as hard.
Warning: Bring tissues for the ending chapters. Odds are you're going to cry like I did.
