Merry Christmas To Those Who Celebrate
Dec. 25th, 2012 10:56 pmChristmas holidays with the family have been fairly low-key this year on account of the fact that my sister, Mary Ann, and her boyfriend are in Minnesota and my sister Katie and her family spent Christmas day with Katie's husband's brother. We're all getting together on Saturday though to open presents and eat a yummy lunch and be all family-like.
We did have Christmas Eve with my mom's side of the family last night and my aunt Debbie made tacos. They were delicious! We also got a chance to Skype with my cousin Mandy who lives in Tennessee and had to work at the VA hospital. Mandy is always a hoot-and-a-half because she always has the best stories to share. We ended Christmas Eve night by watching Holiday In Handcuffs.
This morning, we slept in a bit and then I helped mom get things ready for lunch. My dad's side of the family came over and we had turkey, mashed potatoes, peas, green bean casserole, rolls, ham, and stuffing. After the meal, we had our gift exchange. My aunt got my boyfriend a Zombie Apocalypse Survival Kit, complete with a sonic screwdriver and a letter explaining the purposes of each item. My favorite was that the sonic screwdriver could be used to save the world and cut our wedding cake. :P My cousin Liz had my name this year and she got me a cozy looking blanket with kittens on it. I had a great time catching up with my cousin, Missy. She's one of my closest friends and is easily the one who's always made Christmas activities bearable.
After our guests departed and Nick left for home (he has to work tomorrow, whereas I have the whole week off), Dad and I decided to watch A Muppet Christmas Carol. Dad also chose to surprise me with a special Christmas present. He had a necklace made for me when we went to Florida this summer. It's a gold-plated coin with a Medusa symbol punched into one side and a gryphon punched onto the other. I'll definitely post a picture when I return home. He also got me another necklace with a raven's claw clutching a red marble. Both are so beautiful and it continues the tradition that dad has started of getting me a "geeky" present that the rest of my family doesn't really "get."
Well, that's it for now. Tomorrow is mom's birthday so there's lots more celebrating to come.

I'm glad you're having some great family time with delicious holiday food. My week is going much the same and I'm loving it. Probably off to The Hobbit again this afternoon!
