carlyinrome who continues to keep
femslash_minis alive. I do enjoy the randomly assigned prompts.
Title: Versus
Author: snogged
Disclaimer: Joss Whedon and many other corporations own the characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel the Series. I don’t. Please don't sue.
Pairing: Dawn/Faith
Rating/Warnings: FRM/R
Word Count: 766
Setting: Set after "Chosen." Does NOT follow Comics Canon.
Summary: Who has the better set of powers?
Beta: The positively delightful
snowpuppies . All other mistakes are mine.
Author’s Note: Written for
brutti_ma_buoni and the
femslash_minis Dawn challenge. The three elements that were requested include: Slayer powers vs Key powers, mountains, mirror image. I'll be honest, the last one is only there if you squint.
“Able to spot a badly-dressed vampire at 50 feet.”
“Able to be spotted by super-crazy people at 50 feet.”
“Super-hearing.”
“Er…. super awesome at being a Summers.”
Faith smirked, amusement shining in her dark eyes. “Pretty sure that’s not a specific Key-power, kiddo.”
“I made up the rules,” Dawn replied, crossing her arms and pushing out her bottom lip in an adorable pout.
Faith thumped her lightly on the knee and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. “Dawnie, we stopped playing ‘I-win’ back when I was still considered one of the good guys.”
“You’re still a good guy, or gal, rather,” Dawnie argued, her eyes sparkling with the knowledge that she was about to secure yet another victory over Faith. Faith merely chose to sit back and listen. She figured this was going to be good. It always was.
“If you could look in the mirror and see what I see, you would know that.”
Dawn held up her fingers and started bending them back one at a time as she continued:
“Let’s see, you got out of jail and totally rocked the road to redemption. You came back to Sunnydale and helped us defeat the First Evil. That sounds like the very definition of a good gal, especially if my sister has anything to say about it. Then there’s that part where I convinced you to fall in love with me. I’m pretty sure that based on that, we never stopped playing ‘I-win.’”
Faith laughed and pressed her lips to Dawn’s temple, breathing in the smell of strawberries and mountain air. Crashing in a cabin out in Middle-of-Bumblefuck, Appalachia was turning out to be not-such-a-bad-idea, even if they had originally come up here to destroy a Gnarl demon that had been terrorizing and torturing the previous occupants of said cabin.
Dawn raised her eyebrow, clearly annoyed that Faith hadn’t conceded yet. Faith chuckled, pressing the flat of her tongue against Dawn’s temple and licking a short streak up to her hair line.
“Okay, Dawnie, you win.”
Dawn grinned and reached her fingers up to wipe off the wet spot.
“I haven’t won quite yet. We’re not done playing Key-versus-Slayer.”
Faith shrugged, figuring they could wrap this up quickly and get to the other fun cabin activities she had planned: “Able to knock a vampire out with a single punch.”
“Able to make dimensions open with my blood.”
“Super strength.”
Dawn narrowed her eyes and bumped her shoulder against Faith’s upper arm.
“You already used that one, remember? With the beating up vampires part? Pretty sure one begets the other.”
“Begets?” Faith chuckled. “I think someone’s been spending a little too much time on the Watcher’s Council.”
“Have not,” Dawn replied.
But Faith knew the opposite was true. Dawn had been training with the new Slayers and the new Council for quite some time and she was proving to be quite the voracious reader and writer.
Not that Faith minded, especially when she discovered that Dawn’s favorite way to practice all the new things she had learned was to write them out…with her tongue.
Faith lost herself to the mental image, remembering the time that Dawn first tried to learn Latin and had spent hours diligently practicing her craft while Faith had bucked and squirmed beneath her.
Faith squeezed her thighs together and grunted, half-listening to Dawn’s explanation
“… word of the day calendar. Willow and Kennedy bought for me over the…hey! I’m speaking here, Missy.”
“Sorry, babe,” Faith replied, blush coloring her cheeks. “Just thinking of what we can do after the game.”
“Well, perhaps we should figure out a winner then. One last round?”
Faith nodded her head in agreement. The sooner this game was over, the sooner they could play one of Faith’s favorite games. “How about a hot chick with superpowers?”
“Hmm…how about a hot chick that’s super glow-y?”
Faith brought her other hand up to Dawn’s face. She cupped Dawn’s cheek and gently rotated it so they were facing each other, nose-to-nose, forehead-to-forehead. It was still hard to believe that they had gotten to this point.
A Slayer and the Key.
Two roles that sounded just fine for a pair of sisters, but for a pair of lovers?
Damn. Faith could think of so many ways that didn’t work.
Dawn was always going to be the good girl, the glowing girl. Faith would always be the bad girl, the broken girl.
But in Dawn’s eyes, she could also see the way they fit.
…and if she got her way tonight, there would be a lot more 'fitting together' in their future.
