I found out that this was a thing during the Fandom Snowflake challenge this year and I really liked the idea. I have been meaning to make this a weekly thing, but obviously that didn't work out so I'm starting it today!

What I Just Read
American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military HistoryAmerican Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History by Chris Kyle

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A friend of mine loaned me this book and I thought it was worth the read given all the fuss out there about the film. I haven't seen the film yet nor did I know that Chris Kyle was dead (spoiler alert) when I started reading the book.

I liked Chris's honesty and POV. He was not afraid to admit to his flaws nor he was afraid to admit to the skills he possesses. He told the truth about war and didn't sugarcoat the violence he saw every day. I particularly enjoyed the parts about his marriage and I wished there had been more on that. I also really liked the added insights that his wife provided.

I think Chris Kyle served his country well and I am glad that we have men and women out there fighting for us.

I wish that it had been more story and less snippets though. It seemed like things were just thrown together and there wasn't much glue in between snippets to hold each chapter in place. I was also not fond of his love of killing people. I get that this is the type of profession that requires a hangman's sense of humor, but it just rubbed me the wrong way that he really had no remorse. Maybe I'm just reacting this way because I'm sensitive or easily shocked, but that's how I feel and I can accept that.

This book revealed a lot to me that I didn't know and I will say that I'm glad that it was published.

What I'm Reading Now

Dom Wars: Round One by Lucian Bane.

Book Summary: "Lucian Bane’s inner Dom is out of control and hungry for things he can’t name. When he signs up for Dom Wars, he meets Tara who is naive to the BDSM world. Her reckless dominance and puritan heart fascinate him. But when he discovers the pain in her past, it unleashes his true Dom within."

Reaction so far: A friend of mine had told me about this series and shared an Amazon kindle deal with me that allowed me to get the first three books. So far, I would say this series is very odd. I thought Tara, the leading female, would be more...sassy. They're all competing on the reality show for who the best Dominant is and I don't even understand how Tara managed to pass the audition round. I'm curious enough to see where this goes though and I may even be willing to commit to the six book series.

I've intended to read American Sniper, but I've been put off by some of the elements you describe. I will do it someday though.
