Poetry: Daughter of the '90's

I apologize for my severe lack of posting this past month. I'm going to try to get better about that.

In the meantime, I was inspired to write poetry today. It's probably been about 6 or 7 years since I've taken a stab at free verse, but I'm excited that I managed to do a little writing.



Daughter of the '90's-
Bohemian backstreets and in sync
With nothing, but her own nerd chic.

She's the girl in the Hot Topic-issued choker-
Cheap metal linked to fake jewels that drop onto her skin
Like the tears that were left when he first hurt her.

She looks out at the green world, the black hole sun-
Crumbling into pieces, but still stitched together by loose threads of hope.
She's not strong enough to save it.

But she tries to keep her pieces together.

Every day she rises.
Every day she puts one foot in front of the other.
Every day she puts her heart on the field.
Every day she cares and loves and it's so genuine…

That it hurts her sometimes.

Daughter of the '90's-
A smile trying to walk on star shine
With rosy red blisters on her feet.
