Working Girl
Jul. 1st, 2010 04:46 pmHad my first day with Power Packer today (and I was able to answer phones without cracking a giggle,
whichclothes). Mostly, I sat with JoAnn (the receptionist I'm sitting in for next week) and had the primary task of answering phones. There weren't many of those, which I guess was surprising to JoAnn, but I did the best I could with the ones we got. I think I've got the transfer/hold system down well enough anyways though I'll probably be very dependent on the cheat sheet for extensions and such.
During the rest of my time, I got a tour of the place, met various co-workers (both in the office and on the plant floor), learned about the hydraulics systems they made, boxed up some files that needed to be sent to storage, and read my new book, Definitely Dead by Charlaine Harris. I admit it was a bit weird to have the opportunity for pleasure reading while I was there, but JoAnn kept insisting that I do it because she had nothing else for me to do. She also said that while she's gone I can play games and surf the internet at my leisure.
I will say, however, that I was relieved when several co-workers promised to have filing and assorted projects for me to work on while I'm there to make me feel like my presence in their office will be worth everyone's time. I was also given the task of taking everyone's picture and creating a Photo ID Directory for the office so that should be fun.
All in all, I think I'm gonna like it there, even though I'll only be there for six total days.
