Had my first day with Power Packer today (and I was able to answer phones without cracking a giggle, [livejournal.com profile] whichclothes). Mostly, I sat with JoAnn (the receptionist I'm sitting in for next week) and had the primary task of answering phones. There weren't many of those, which I guess was surprising to JoAnn, but I did the best I could with the ones we got. I think I've got the transfer/hold system down well enough anyways though I'll probably be very dependent on the cheat sheet for extensions and such.

During the rest of my time, I got a tour of the place, met various co-workers (both in the office and on the plant floor), learned about the hydraulics systems they made, boxed up some files that needed to be sent to storage, and read my new book, Definitely Dead by Charlaine Harris. I admit it was a bit weird to have the opportunity for pleasure reading while I was there, but JoAnn kept insisting that I do it because she had nothing else for me to do. She also said that while she's gone I can play games and surf the internet at my leisure.

I will say, however, that I was relieved when several co-workers promised to have filing and assorted projects for me to work on while I'm there to make me feel like my presence in their office will be worth everyone's time. I was also given the task of taking everyone's picture and creating a Photo ID Directory for the office so that should be fun.

All in all, I think I'm gonna like it there, even though I'll only be there for six total days.

Sounds like things went really well! Good for you! Jo-Ann sounds like she was really helpful and nice and I am so glad you seem to have had a smooth entry into your temp assignment.

Sounds great! And, actually it sounds a lot like my job. If you are bored at work and want to exchange emails during the day, I'll be around! I find I really enjoy answering the phone... interaction makes things more interesting, that's for sure.

I'll keep that in mind and probably take you up on it.
Answering the phone is pretty nifty. :)

Sounds like a great temp job! And you are infinitely more mature than me. :-)

LOL.
Don't worry Nick and I made plenty of jokes about it last night.

I'm sure it will be slightly more stressful when JoAnn goes on vacation next week and isn't around to field all my questions. But we'll just wait and see.

Everyone's so worky lately! I totally understand you feeling weird reading, I always feel like if I'm at a workplace I should be, you know, working, haha.

Well, today, there was no time for reading (except on my breaks). They had plenty of things to keep me busy. :)

*giggles* at the thought of having to answer the phones for a Company called 'Power Packer'.

Sounds like a nice place to work though.

Is that one of the True Blood books? I want to read the series as well!
I'm glad you had a great first day!

It is.
Though True Blood is really only loosely based on the series. There's actually quite a few differences between them.
