“I’m sorry.”

The words felt poisonous in her mouth. She didn’t want to say them. She wasn’t even sure she meant them.

“No you’re not.”

Spike could tell she wasn’t sorry. He could sense the resentment pouring off of her body in waves.

“Excuse me? How can I not be sorry? I said I was didn’t I?”

Her hands curled into fists at her sides. This was so like him. Always making her feel like the bad guy. He was the bad guy. He was the monster. She shouldn’t even have to say it to him.

Spike pulled her into his arms and kissed her.

“Because you never had anything to apologize for in the first place, love.”
