watchersgoddess put up in the rare ships challenge on darker_spike. I’m not trying to disturb people, honest, I swear!
The one thing Willow noticed about Mayor Richard Wilkins III was that he was clean. In fact, he probably could easily win the award for Cleanest Man in the World. He hated germs and required that all his employees wear rubber gloves when handling the files so they wouldn’t be tainted.
He was so clean it was almost creepy but Willow didn’t mind. She knew this was an experience that colleges would eat up on a resume and it would be helpful to her and the Scooby Gang as well. She had first class access to all of the city’s records. It was almost as nice as breathing in the sweet scent of books in the library.
In addition to that, the Mayor treated her like a daughter. He always wanted to know about the events of her day, even down to the last boring detail. He made her feel safe and wanted, which is something her own father had never done. He would come into see her and crack jokes. Most of them were silly and childish but they brightened Willow’s day and he loved seeing her smile.

Months Later-
The news that the Mayor was evil came as a shock to her, probably more so than anyone else in the Scoobies. She wanted to deny it at first. He had been so nice and kind to her over the summer. And he was so clean. How could someone that clean be so evil? It didn’t make any sense to her. But the facts were laid out in front of her. The Mayor of Sunnydale, the cleanest man in the world, was going to ascend and destroy everything. Willow sniffled and a single tear escaped down her cheek. She had put her trust and faith into him. He’d been a father to her and now she was going to have to help kill him. And it hurt just a little.
