spuffy_girl who wanted to see Barney and Robin dance to Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight"
It was the song they played at every crappy wedding he had ever been too and of course, his brother’s wedding was no exception. He scans the room and his eyes settle on Robin, whose rocking the cleavage in her knock-out evening dress. He’ll have to remember to send a prayer to the gods that invented the push-up bra later.
It's late in the evening; she's wondering what clothes to wear.
He approaches the table and extends his hand, knowing that she’ll take it. Her fingers touch his and before she can blink, he pulls her into a tight embrace, forcing every inch of their bodies to touch.
We go to a party and everyone turns to see. This beautiful lady that's walking around with me.
His grandmother had forced him to take ballroom dancing lessons when he was eight so it wasn’t hard to move Robin across the dance floor, spinning and swaying to the music. A couple as beautiful as they were would put the whole room in a trance without a second thought.
And the wonder of it all is that you just don't realize how much I love you.
Was it weird that she still didn’t know how he felt about her? Even now, he couldn’t bring himself to wrap his lips around the words that had backfired on him so many months ago.
If was lucky, maybe she’d notice the sparkle in his eyes as he lost himself in her arms.
Oh my darling, you were wonderful tonight.
“Thanks Barney,” Robin whispered, as the final strains of Eric Clapton’s wedding hit left the speakers.
“Anytime,” Barney replied, surprised that her arm still lingered around his neck for a few minutes longer than she had too.
Maybe Clapton had a point, maybe there could be a wonderful tonight out there for Barney and Robin. Maybe a wedding dance was all it took.
Then again, maybe not. It never worked out once you've passed the drum roll at a wedding.
