HIMYM Redux - "Bagpipes"
Nov. 2nd, 2009 11:11 pmTonight's episode was pretty much a total win for me (I'm taking off a few points because they so could have used the patented LAME timeout function during the fight and chose not too).
*Because a picture speaks 1000 words:

OMFG! OMFG! OMFG! Alyson Hannigan plays the shit out of bimbo!Lily. And Barney making her dance for him. Mrowr....
ETA: I can't believe I didn't notice this but Lily's apron is incredibly reminiscent of the American flag. *g* Only Barney....
* 83 1/2 Beds. For two reasons: one it marks the return of the number 83 and that's a continuity win in itself. And second because it means Robin and Barney did it on an ottoman in a vintage shop. Probably during store hours. And baby, that's the way I like it!
* Bagpipes/Bagpiping. This was a really clever Dad metaphor forsex- fucking. Because Ted's said sex on tv before and I bet that old couple is crazy. I mean, come on, they're tantric!
* Barney leaving and/or Robin taking off her clothes before a conflict starts. *tips hat to the RP* Yeah they do ;)
* The actual Barney/Robin fight montage. Breaking plates. Epic spazzing. This stuff was pure gold.
* The most perfect Marshall line of the night: "Son, I’ve been in a relationship since you had a ponytail and were playing Dave Matthews on your mama’s Casio… I’ve forgotten more about microwaving fat-free popcorn and watching Sandra Bullock movies than you’ll ever know." I was rolling on the floor in laughter.
* Ted/Marshall Slap Bet. Dude! Awesome
* T-Moze. Yeah, I'm down with it.
* Marshall and Lily make outs and Marshall and Lily actually acting like the Marshall and Lily that I know and love with all my heart.
* Lily's Shining impression scaring all the other Marshalls.
* Pancake and Bacon Strip.
Okay, there was one thing about this ep that irked me, but that dissipated after everything was explained. If you haven't guessed yet, it was Barney and Robin's nauseating attempts to be the perfect couple. Barnstormer????!! WTF, Writers?
So with that, I give this episode an arbitrary A-

on 2009-11-03 12:59 pm (UTC)I know, right? After weeks of epic-spazzing with Otemps about Barney/Lily. After it being a primarily Swarkles episode. But there are things that just made me roll my eyes with annoyance. I haven't even written a redux because I'm just hacked off with it.
I've lost all faith in brOTP.

on 2009-11-03 01:57 pm (UTC)No, there just seemed something very off about the episode. Something unbelievable, almost more than usual. Which is saying something on HIMYM's recent track record.

on 2009-11-03 02:57 pm (UTC)At least he's easy to work with fanfic wise. Easy to write porn about.
I've finished up the fifth part of Synesthesia and Billy's still being a little bitch on admitting his feeling for Penny. Plus, apparently, he can still Twitter while being beaten up. Granted his tweets while being strangled are all "Arrgh gasp choke!" but dangit, he's that good.

on 2009-11-03 01:47 pm (UTC)They should name their hypothetical spawn Swarkles. Swarkles Awesome Scherbatsky-Stinson. Because it's still less odd then some of the names floating out there right now.
Also is it wrong that when I read this part of Barney's blog:
"Dear Mr. Stinson,
Long time reader, first time writer. "
this happened? Which was... my inner Billy muse threw on his labcoat, ran over, and faithful went "Blah, blah, blah."

on 2009-11-03 01:31 pm (UTC)I did have one nitpick, which was Robin's supposed hatred for nicknames. "Teddy Bear," anyone!? She and T-Moze were JUST as sickening when they were first going out. How's it feel to have the pant on the other leg, Mosby!? And he didn't react with awesome fake suicides, but that's okay because reacted in a Ted-like manner. But!!! I loved this ep. It made me laff and smile.
