End of the Year Meme
Jan. 7th, 2010 10:08 amEven though we're a week into the New Year, I still wanted to give this meme a try.
Snagged from a whole ton of people on my flist.
1. What did you do in 2009 that you'd never done before?
I got on a plane and flew to Dublin by myself. I cut a chunk of hair from Kirk's head to raise money for Casey. And I became an aunt.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't generally make New Year's resolutions, because the implication of them always seems to indicate that they will get broken anyways. What I do know is that I want to continue writing fanfiction this year and continue to challenge myself to write characters and pairings I've never done before. I also know that I want to find a job post-graduation in May and successfully move into an apartment with Nick. So let's call them promises to myself.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My sister Katie gave birth to my charming niece, Lauren Olivia.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
A good friend of mine lost his mom, but I think that was it.
5. What countries did you visit?
Ireland!
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
A Master's degree. An apartment I share with Nick. More self-confidence.
7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
August 9th- Day I got on a plane for Ireland. May 24th - My Golden Birthday. And late June- Lauren's birthday.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
In the fanfiction realm, I'd say receiving awards for my writing always makes me feel on top of the world for awhile. Also, sticking to the HIMYM RP through thick and thin. And my other accomplishment would be survivng the first semester of internship.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not being as confident as I'd like to be in my internship placement.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had bronchitis again in October and that sucked a whole lot.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
My entire trip to Ireland and the DVDs I picked up.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My boyfriend's. Because he kept me sane a whole lot this year whenever the stress got high.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
The HIMYM writers, especially Carter Bays, really threw me for a loop this season. I also have to say Jon Cryer for the comments he made about homosexual stars needing to stay in the closest if they're playing straight characters.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Living Expenses (i.e. food, gas), Spring/Summer/Fall tuition, Ireland
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Becoming an aunt, going to Ireland, and falling in love with some new TV shows (i.e. Glee, Modern Family, True Blood)
16. What song will always remind you of 2009?
"Paparazzi" by Lady Gaga. "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift. "Don't Stop Believing" by the Glee Cast. "Right Round" by Flo Rida. "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? I think I'm happier, but there's still a lot of stress about what I'll be doing after graduation this year with the economy the way it is and the demands of my degree.
ii. thinner or fatter? About the same.
iii. richer or poorer? Poorer. I get less hours at the Registrar's office now that I'm in my internship, and my internship is unpaid.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Spent more time going to see friends who live in other places.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Worrying.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
My Christmas is always a marathon. Here's the breakdown: Christmas Eve- spent with Mom's side of the family. Christmas Day (AM)- Opened presents with mom, dad, and Nick. Christmas Day (PM) - spent with Dad's side of family. Dec. 26th- Mom's birthday. December 27th- spent Christmas with my friend Angie and her family. January 2nd- Christmas with sisters and their significant others.
22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
Nick and I don't fall. We rise. To awesome!

Off the air- The list is far too long.

I don't generally hate anyone, but I have to say that Jon Cryer's interview this year pissed me off as did Carter Bay's opinions on what a relationship should be.
26. What was the best book you read?
"The Blade Itself" by Joe Abercrombie.
27. What was your greatest musical (re)discovery?
Buckethead, No More Kings, Barenaked Ladies, and Jonathan Coulton. Only one of which was a rediscovery.
28. What did you want and get?

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
District 9, The Ugly Truth, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and Sherlock Holmes.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 24. On the actual day of my birth, my mom had a Memorial Day party and very few people even acknowledged that it was my birthday too. But Nick made up for it the day before by taking me to Applebee's for steaks and we went and saw Night at the Museum 2.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Living with Nick already.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Jeans and comfy shirts and sweaters.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
Life is short. Do what you can to make it awesome.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
This is "Someday" by No More Kings.
Someday I’ll know
If I left me on my own
How far would I go?
Someday I’ll know
Someday I won’t be so self-defeating
Won’t kick me when I’m bleeding
I’ll do a high-dive from the high-point of my roof
I’ll be the smoothest dancer
And I’ll have all the answers
I’ll take the stand and raise my hands
And the band will play
