First, I have to say that I enjoyed this episode. It was a fun romp and it’s a crazy to believe that we’ve reached 100 episodes already.

Second, I opted to write a review about how each of the characters worked for me tonight and so I’m pleased to present my list of the Fab Five in the Top Five.

1. Ted

Ted continues to be a breakout character this season, which is an awesome thing considering the show is meant to be about him. Josh Radnor and Bob Saget were definitely on top of their game delivering a storyline that not only hinted at the mother and who she is, but came across as something that felt truly “HIMYM-y.” Of course, by HIMYM-y, what I mean is that it comes off as sweet and fresh and mature in the way the memorable stories of the early seasons do. It’s the kinda stuff that keeps me in love with this show, and I’m glad the writers gave me the tip of the hat on that one.

I was intrigued by Ted’s morality with school policy, but I felt it did tie in well with his constant quest for the perfect love and the perfect mate so I don’t feel it was OOC.

Other moments that tie into Ted’s story that I loved tonight were his list of mundane dreams, his way of saying “Hot” when he recited the title of Cindy’s dissertation, the dominatrix lie, the school bus (continuity!win), the bass guitar, the yellow umbrella, the Unicorns, robots playing sports, naked ankles, and T.C. Boyle. And, that Ted was able to pick out all three items in Cindy’s room that didn’t belong to her.

Memorable Quote: "Your mother's rendition of 'Memory' as performed by an English muffin, is to this day the most hauntingly beautiful thing I've ever heard" –Old!Ted and "I know the university rule book says we can't date, but it also says 'don't teach drunk' and I do that all the time." –Young!Ted

2. Marshall

Do you know why I love Marshall? I shall tell you why, my dear readers. Because he doesn’t fall into the girlfriend/wife trap. Not that I blame him. If I had Lily for a wife, I’d be much content to fall naked into a bed with her than with Stacey Keibler (who looked way hotter on Dancing With The Stars, by the way). The way Marshall professes love is remarkable, and although he may not be the quintessential hottie on the show, he’s definitely landed a secure place in my heart.

I was also a fan of the way that he talked for at least two whole minutes while Barney was stroking his head against his chest before he made Barney stop. Slasher heart be still.

Also, when Marshall says “Pot of Gold” in a leprechaun voice? I can’t help but smile.

3. Robin

Let me just say now that I’m super glad that we didn’t get any Don crap tonight because it rubs me wrong that the writers are honestly expecting fans to fall in love with a Don/Robin storyline.

That being said, Robin narrowly pushed past Barney tonight to come in third place. I know she comes across as terribly insecure when she does pout about not being considered the hottest woman in the bar. But in comparison to Stacey the bartender, she totally was and she didn’t even need situational circumstances to pull it off.

I loved it when she snuck behind the bar to prove her point and the treasured sounds of Warrant’s “Cherry Pie” started blasting, and I was sad when it wasn’t Carl that dragged her off, but other bartender guy (who I now call Adrian by the way.)

Finally, I like the fact that she exasperatedly put an end to Barney’s list of women he nailed per their job description. Barney really needs to have women in his life who don’t take his lines of bullshit (no matter how charming and suave) and I’m glad Robin could do that for him. And just in case you didn’t notice, TV News Reporter didn’t make the cut. (minor fail.)

4. Barney

NPH did an excellent job with a super fun and quirky song, pulled off a catchy dance number, and looked amazing in a t-shirt and ripped jeans (humina humina.) But for me, I feel like the only thing I got from Barney was eye candy. Granted, it was bowls and bowls of eye candy, but underneath all the sweet sugar, I really didn’t feel a lot of substance coming his way. Even if he cried over losing his suit.

I did think that the fake door in the bathroom stall was clever though. Major props to the set department for pulling that off.

I was intrigued by the fact that they did two “Wait for It” gags during this episode, considering the fact that I don’t think it’s popped up at all during the season. And I also thought it was pretty classic!Barney when he whispered to the suits that they’d be okay after making his Dirty Bartender dreams come true. (Heh. Dirty Bartender. Good Times.)

As for Tim Gunn being Barney’s personal tailor…the only thing I really liked about that cameo was Old!Ted’s voiceover introducing him as “TV’s Tim Gunn.”

5. Lily

As much as I approve of Lily’s sexual attraction for women being a moving target, it felt pretty 'meh' to me. And it didn't help matters that she kept pushing Marshall to break down and agree that Stacey the bartender was hot. It was a really annoying way of asking him for a threesome.
*sigh*

I’m so proud of Aly for winning a People’s Choice Award and for still being the top lady on my list…but I’m disappointed that the writers had to give her this seriously minor storyline tonight, even if she played it as best she could. I really don’t think anyone sounds good saying that they would wear a woman’s ass as a hat.

My final thought on this episode is that I’m hoping the rest of the season will continue to give me some of that HIMYM-y love that I found in this episode tonight because that would make me smile :D

And just one super quick Big Bang Theory note...I was super excited to see Danica McKellar (i.e. Trudy!!) She did an amazing job and I hope she can come back soon.

Because I have to leave early tomorrow to fly back to Boston, and maaaaaybe I'll post this later, I'm just popping in now to say, I agree with you - I liked it a lot with only a few quibbles - and did he really say "Ted Gunn"??? That's really funny, I didn't catch that! :)

We also spotted Trudy on BBT - I was all, "Hey!" and my dad went, "OMG That's Winnie Cooper!" It was good times.

Also, the reason Carl couldn't be in tonight's episode of HIMYM was because he was busy being a drug dealer on "Castle"... I squealed just a little bit at his scruffy hotness.

That wasn't Carl!? But I was SO excited that it was Carl!! :( Now that you mention it...

I don't know, something was off in this episode? Ted was for sure the greatest thing ever, and I love him and the Mother and EVERYTHING!!! And Marshall was just adorable, especially being all just letting Barney practically salivating all over him without saying anything <3 That was awesome.

I really don't know what it was about this episode... But it was very good. AH!!! What's wrong with me?

Even if it was...he wasn't credited for it on IMDB. But it didn't really look like him. He was on Castle last night thought ;)

Yay for Ted and Barney and Marshall :)

If it helps, Carl was on Castle last night :)

In comparison to the season as a whole, I thought this one was a much stronger episode than others have been, so I have to give it some credit.

I think it's hilarious that we two are maybe the only people who noticed that it wasn't Carl on HIMYM :D

CBS.com usually posts full episodes for HIMYM so I'd try there.

Otherwise, there's surfthechannel.com and they link you to the megavideo uploads (but there tends to be more pop ups this way.)
