Three Cheers For Words :)
Feb. 4th, 2010 11:30 pmA little conversation I had with Gabrielle tonight got me thinking about how awesome words are. So my flisters, I wanna know the coolest/most elegant/best/dirty-sounding etc. word (or words) that you know. And I'd like you to post a definition as well, even if I might know what it means already.
*hugs*
And just to get the ball rolling, one of my favorite words is "susurration" (n). A soft murmur, or whisper.

on 2010-02-05 01:08 pm (UTC)I love it because it sounds like something very naughty. :)
Friends who were in the Army said they used it in Vietnam when they were 'pulling out'...see, told you it was naughty. LOL!
ETA: Not elegant as you requested etc. but I love it.

Also... again with the weirdness, but i love the word 'mooli', so much that i named my ipod after it hehehe! Its a type of root vegetable lol. You were prolly wanting big fancy long-arsed words huh? Oh well! :P

on 2010-02-05 02:43 pm (UTC)Viscosity: a measure of the resistance of a fluid which is being deformed by either shear stress or tensional stress. In everyday terms (and for fluids only), viscosity is "thickness".
I don't know why.

on 2010-02-06 05:07 am (UTC)Another fun word, but it's more my sister's word than mine, is "defenestrate." It means to throw out the window, as in, "You just defenestrated my boyfriend!" (An actual quote from my sister.)
