The customers at MacLaren’s had never been shy about demonstrating the ins and outs of a first date. To the watchful eye of a waitress, this routine generally involved a lot of kissing, loads of cuddling, and plenty of food getting cold.

Despite the messes couples left behind, Wendy had always found this act sweet and romantic. It would be easy to blame the sap contained within the harlequin romance novels she kept in her locker. But, really, she was just a regular lady looking for love.

Just like Ted.

Except that he wasn’t a lady, he was just lonely.

Ted watched the door, fiddling with one of his many tortilla chips. This was supposed to be a blind date but there was no girl to kiss, no girl to cuddle with. There was just a plate of nachos, getting colder by the second.

“Can I get you anything else, Ted?” Wendy asked. She looked so sweet and genuine that he felt his heart skip a beat. It would be so easy to break the Platinum rule…

“How ‘bout you join me?”

To his surprise, Wendy sat down beside him, a smile on her face.

And he wasn’t lonely anymore.
