Day 6 - Favorite Episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer

This is a tough one, mostly because I hate picking favorites and Buffy has a lot of great episodes to choose from. (It also has a few duds, but we'll get to those tomorrow.)

But at the end of the day, my heart is screaming for Passion.


For starters, I love this monologue: “Passion, it lies in all of us, sleeping... waiting... and though unwanted... unbidden... it will stir... open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us... guides us... passion rules us all, and we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love... the clarity of hatred... and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion maybe we'd know some kind of peace... but we would be hollow... Empty rooms shuttered and dank. Without passion we'd be truly dead.”

*shivers*

So damn beautiful...

Following that, I feel that this is when we see Angelus step up as a Big Bad, where we see how wicked and dangerous he can be. We see the pictures he draws of Buffy while she sleeps. We see the dead fish in Willow's aquarium. Most importantly, we see one of the characters who has touched our hearts get her neck broken. Jenny's death has always touched a chord with me because it's different. We know Angelus is a vampire and so his primary MO is to drain blood, but Jenny's not deemed worthy of this kind of death because Angelus wants her to suffer another way. The care in which Angelus decorates Jenny's apartment in the aftermath makes dealing with her loss that much harder, especially for Giles. Over and over again, this episode continues to resonate with me.

This is also the episode where we learn Xander does the Snoopy Dance. And well, that's just adorable.
