This day feels like the perfect opportunity to discuss a finale that brought the kind of shock value that leaves you with that OMG WTF? feeling when its over. Grey's Anatomy has done a pretty fantastic job of ending its seasons this way. First season, we met Derek's wife, Addison Montgomery-Shepherd. Second season ended with a emotionally stunning performance by Katherine Heigl, the cutting of Denny's LVAD wire to get a heart to Seattle Grace faster, and Denny's inevitable death. Third season gave us a distraught Cristina sobbing over Burke's departure as Meredith held her. Fifth season gave us a true OMG WTF? with George getting hit by a bus and Meredith needing to figure out his identity from "OO7."
But this year, Grey's outdid themselves and I have to thank them for the fact that they at least left us with sense of calm after the storm. The shooter was creepy and well-played and his motives were realistic. I was positively gripped and horrified at the same time.
Well done, Shonda.
