There have been a number of pilots that I could wax poetic about such as Glee, Big Bang Theory, Dead Like Me, Desperate Housewives, etc. Each one of them hooked me in its own unique way and I love that about them.

But I feel the need to talk about the How I Met Your Mother pilot episode instead even though the first episode I saw of this show was actually half way through season 2. What HIMYM's pilot did was introduce the storytelling concept of the show. It gave us Marshall and Lily getting down and dirty on the kitchen floor. It gave us Ranjit the Taxi Cab driver and the awkward sexual conversation about spanking in the bedroom. It gave us Robin and smitten Ted. It gave us catchphrases such as: "Legen-wait for it-dary," "Suit Up!," and "Ha--aa--ve you met Ted?" Of course, those catchphrases were given to us by the lovable cad, Barney Stinson.

This is a show that managed to worm its way into our hearts and made it clear from the get go that Ted and Robin were not meant to last forever.

I love the HIMYM pilot. Ted's speech to Robin towards the end? Makes me melt every time.

I too didn't see the pilot first - "Something Borrowed" came with my iPod, and when my friend sat me down to watch HIMYM, she started with "The Duel" for some reason (she had the whole first season, but whatever!). I loved it from there, but I do love revisiting the pilot and seeing how far they've come.

And the last time I rewatched it, I found the "Ted face" that Barney was emulating in "Three Days Rule" - it wasn't really his face when he saw Robin, it was the one right after he said "smurf penis" on their date. Hehe!

My first episode was "How Lily Stole Christmas." At one point, I literally fell out of the chair I was sitting in because I was laughing so much.

SMURF PENIS!!!

"How Lily Stole Christmas" is such an awesome episode. :)

And I capped Ted's "crazy I'm going to move too fast and screw this up look" with Barney's because I can't believe I didn't before:

I watched it!!!

Good episode, but the gags were too much American to be funny in other COuntries too, for me.

That's a show I rarely get to watch because of school and stuff... but I miss it. Will have to catch up. Seriously... I misses my NPH

I wish Season 5 had been better though.

My friend always gets worried when he's around me cause he hates the show. Which I'm totally cool with (I'll convert him yet), but he says that he watched it and it didn't have any heart.

But I love it cause I think it's got a lot of heart! So much heart! Cheese, yes, but heart! (and that random angry girl Robin's with who comes back in Zip, Zip, Zip that's hilarious!).

Basically, I approve of your choice :P (And sorry for the copious amounts of comments. I'm re-internet'd.)
