A/N: written as a birthday present to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] lilbreck. I hope you enjoy this indulgence. It was quite fun to do.

Angel stood at the mouth of the cave, peering into the darkness, following the girl’s shadow as it darted towards the far wall. He was reminded of the nights he had spent centuries ago in the cairns of the Scottish highlands, his body sandwiched between the curves of Darla’s lithe frame and the sharp angles of Spike’s as they waited for the sunlight to sink below the horizon.

Stepping forward, his eyes trailed over the walls, noticing the odd lines and shapes, wishing he had a translator to figure out their meaning. As Angel continued towards the trembling woman he had just rescued, he listened intently as rock scraped against rock; she was etching some new message. He couldn’t help but wonder why it seemed as if this girl was trying so hard to peel away the very walls that protected her from the barbaric demon clans of Pylea.

“Handsome man…” she murmured, repeating the words from earlier. He couldn’t quite understand it, but the phrase triggered something inside of him. Something that made his cock twitch. Something that made him instantly uncomfortable.

It wasn’t that he didn’t find her attractive. In fact, she looked quite cute in her red glasses and burlap dress. It was more that he didn’t trust this dimension, didn’t know all of the rules which governed it. There was no assurance that his soul was safe here, no guarantee that his demon could be controlled the way it always was. No guarantee that he was safe behind the barriers he’d spent so much time building.

There was also no telling what would happen if he pressed her up against the wall, nudged his thigh between her legs, and felt…what? Her heat, her desperation, her resistance, her anger? She had been a slave her whole life. There was no telling what she was trained for, what she would respond to.

He knew what Angelus would do, but he had spent his whole life fighting against those very desires.

Now was not the time to start playing with fire.

“Don’t be afraid. I’m not going to hurt you.”

If only he really believed that.
