re-posted with [livejournal.com profile] idioticonion's permission.

------

You'll probably see a lot of these kinds of posts in the next few days, but please can I ask that anyone commenting on my journal (including on f-locked posts) please not repost on Facebook or Twitter?

There's an almighty furor about the lack of opt-out on this new repost feature, because comments on a Real Life Facebook or Twitter account might give away people's more anonymous fandom identities.

While I've assembled some RL friends on this Journal, it is largely still a fandom journal in more ways than one. I do NOT want this to be associated with my Facebook account.

(Please repost this type message to your own account if necessary! Fight the man!)

What's worse is that people can repost comment from locked entries to FB if they so choose too.

Seriously, LJ?

Does it repost the locked entry too?!? WTF

Glad I just decided to revive my DW journal.

I'm not totally sure what it all means.

I'm just certain that it's not good. Though I suppose if people aren't stupid and don't click on the little boxes, we won't have any problems.

I assume from the wording of the LJ admin post that it's just the comment. But a lot of people quote the original entry in their comments, and that's where the problem lies.

Especially for entries like fanfiction!

I'll admit. I tend to keep my fanfiction public, but that doesn't mean I'm looking for it to show up on FB anytime soon.

Yep, also the comment in itself could be about themes I would not want to find on facebook.

Fortunately I don't have any fandom people on my facebook account or rl friends on my lj, but it's extremely annoying that there is no way to really opt out of the feature.

Not to mention it'll reveal your LJ username through the address.

No worries, snogged-- I'm with you.
