Given today's prompt, I feel a little cheesy going with someone so obvious but:

Xena in Xena: Warrior Princess

Now, I'm not going to say that the show was the best ever and I've got a laundry list of complaints about how certain things were handled. But I was in the sixth grade when I first learned of this show (again through my best friend, Rachel) and I was entranced by the power of it, the sheer female-ness of it, and the Greek mythology that ran through it like wildfire.

I loved that Xena wasn't afraid to be bad-ass or morally gray and her chakram was just the neatest freaking weapon ever. I also loved the musical episode ("The Bitter Suite") and for several years, I'd pop in my old recorded VHS tape and watch it before my family got up on Christmas morning (since it was the only day of the year, that I'd be out of bed before anyone else.)

I also loved the Xena/Gabrielle pairing. YAY SUBTEXTY TEXT!

And now onto a more personal story...

So my family and I went to Universal Studios in Florida for a vacation around this time and they were running a "ride" that was an interactive participation show celebrating Xena and Hercules. Before we even crossed the bridge into Universal though, I remember my dad saying: "Look."

I look up and lo and behold, Xena and Hercules are standing in front of me. Before you ask, they were impersonators and it was way easy to tell with the guy playing Hercules. But the woman playing Xena exuded a Lucy Lawless-quality that just overwhelmed and excited me. I literally broke down and cried right there and she was so sweet about it.

Anyways, I hope this sheds some light on why I feel the need to give the love to the Warrior Princess. :)

In other news:

I didn't watch Glee yet, so please don't spoil me on it.

I went to my gym class last night and feel quite sore this morning, especially in my upper arms seeing as we did strength training and weights yesterday. I'll survive though so please don't angst over me. :)

Finally, I want to thank [livejournal.com profile] mypetconcubine from the bottom of my heart for sending me a copy of Neil Gaiman's American Gods. SQUEE!

And now I'm off to another monotonous day at Power Packer. WHEE!

Your choices are always bang on. Totally loved Xena. I think the first fanfic I ever wrote was for that show!

I think you're going to love American Gods. I did, anyway. I read part of it last December at Ocotillo Wells, while my hubby was off dirt-biking, and that inspired "The Prisons We Make." :-)

Found 3 Roald Dahl books! They'll be off to you as soon as I'm in town long enough to make it to the post office. :-)

Please remember you don't have to feel obligated.
But if you do, take your time. I'm in no hurry.

It was so good!

Though I must take a moment to say RIP Kevin Smith. And by Kevin Smith...I mean, Ares. Not Silent Bob.

I was always a little confused by that one.

Love that show! And being a Wisconsinite, you might have a deeper connection to American Gods than the average reader. It made me want to visit some places.

I've heard there are a lot of references to places like "House on the Rock" so that kinda sold me a bit.
