A/N: Written foraaronlisa who requested Ted/Lily and kissing in the rain as part of my drabble call.
A/N 2: I don’t have a lot of experience writing in second person, but I had a weird desire to try it for this so I hope you like it.
When you tell the story of how you were Lily’s first kiss in college, you let it slide when Lily tells you that you’re mistaken, that there’s no way you could possibly be too-much-tongue guy.
But when Marshall heads upstairs to the apartment, she doesn’t follow. She lingers, playing with the napkin between her fingers. “You don’t remember, do you?”
“This brain doesn’t forget, Lil. I know we kissed that night. Whether you want to believe it or not.”
“Oh Ted…” She leans forward, her eyes glittering with the secret she desperately wants to share. “Don’t you remember that you’re the rain man?”
That’s when the real memory comes back to you and you can almost feel the spattering water droplets on your skin as you remember the alcoholic spice of her lips. “I thought that was…” You’re about to say Karen, but you hold your tongue. You know how mad it would make her.
“It was me. It’s always been me.”
That’s when she kisses you again, her lips soft and moist, chasing a feeling that hasn’t been there in a long time. Before you have time to catch your breath, she’s gone.
And you’re left wondering what could have been.
