Ridiculously Awesome Weekend (or RAW)
Aug. 23rd, 2010 11:31 pmMy weekend really got off to a rocking start on Saturday when Nick, Kit, and I went to Krista's Kitchen (bakery in town) and I loaded up on empty, delicious calories (a chocolate chip scone and a chocolate raspberry iced coffee).
What followed was my pre-planned trek down to my old university stomping grounds to have a ladies' night with some gal pals of mine from graduate school. We met up at my friend Sabrina's and the four of us ate pizza from Papa Murphy's (Gourmet Vegetarian FTW!), drank some Black Cherry Fizz wine coolers, and chatted about everything that came to our minds: from serious to silly, from smutty to intellectual. Because we all got a little tipsy, we stayed the night and Sabrina made us sweet orange rolls, cinnamon rolls, and coffee. NOM!
Sunday, I went to the Ren Faire with Rhi, Nica, Damien, and Sarah. Now, please understand, that Ren Faire hadn't been apart of my weekend plans. It was a spontaneous decision I made en route to visit my grad school friends. Because of this, I had no garb, but wound up feeling super comfy in my shorts and t-shirt. While there, I ran into my best friend, Meg from the Pagan group I belonged to when I was in college. It was amazing to see her and it was lovely getting to see her friends, Joy and Margaret, as well. I think what stands out for me, though, was my decision to go visit my friend, Crow, who works at the chime shop. It's not unusual for me to pop in and say hi and his boss, Noelle, has become quite familiar with me these last few years. What was unusual was her blocking me from Crow, asking me if I could hand out flyers because they were so swamped, and sending me upstairs with Larson (a good Faire friend of mine) to "suit up." For the first time in my life, I got to spend two hours working at Faire and it was quite fun. Not quite as fun as wandering around the grounds of course, but still, it had its perks. Plus, they're going to buy me dinner next weekend as reimbursement. :D How can I say no to free food?
Today, Nick had off of work so he could finish working on his car (that's what he was doing all weekend for he is a budding grease monkey.) While he did that, I went grocery shopping with my friend, Erin, and then we spent the rest of the afternoon and evening together. Mezz will be pleased to know that we tracked down an episode of I Shouldn't Be Alive and watched it tonight. It was the one where a hiker gets trapped under a boulder and is saved by a man he'd just met the day before. Personally, I think the neatest part of this episode is the ending. Although the hiker lost both legs in the accident, he was still able to become the first double-above knee amputee to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in 2003. The very same mountain my oldest sister climbed. :)

on 2010-08-24 04:53 am (UTC)I really don't feel so fearless...or brave. I found a cricket in the kitchen today and I shrieked and blubbered until Nick captured it and took it back outside. But thank you.

on 2010-08-24 05:03 am (UTC)I'm glad you had such a killer weekend!
I got to see a friend I rarely get to see. MooFoo. And he burned me like a ton of CDs. So that will keep me occupied for a while. We talked story ideas and ate at this little Italian restaurant that I can't remember the name of but that boasts serving real Italian food rather than American Italian food. My dish was completely black but delicious. I'm not even going to try and spell it.
Your weekend beats mine hands down.
