+ Ate delicious tacos on Friday night with mom's side of the family, watched the little ones open gifts, and giggled with delight when my 1 1/2 year old niece decided Nick could be her friend because he kept sticking his tongue out at her and making silly faces. Usually, he's pretty awkward around infants/kids, but the stars were aligned Christmas Eve and he did just fine.

+ Got outvoted on the Christmas Eve movie. I wanted to watched Muppet Christmas Carol, everyone else wanted to watch Four Christmases. At least Four Christmases is somewhat funny...and I do love Reese Witherspoon.

+ Woke up way earlier than I wanted to on Christmas day, but had a nice time opening gifts with the family. I got a few new outfits, some colorful bowls for dips and things, Community, Season One, Drop Dead Diva, Season One, Funny People, and the next two books in the Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins.

+ Dad's side of the family started showing up at the house around 11:30 am and we ate a delicious turkey dinner with sour cream mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, green bean casserole, and dinner rolls. NOM! Then we opened presents. The best one easily had to be the one that my 10 year-old cousin Willy got from my dad's sister's family.

Now, before I tell this story, I should say that my aunt's son, Justin, is a bit of a Christmas prankster (last year, he put Nick's gift in a block of ice)and he was sitting behind the couch so we couldn't see his hands. So, there was plenty of curiosity when my sister found a message on the wrapping paper that said: "Don't flip me over or I'll get mad." She jokingly referenced National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation by saying there was a cat in there. Willy, being the rough and tough kid he is, brushed her off and went about opening his gift (without flipping it over!).

Inside the paper was a shoe box and once Willy lifted the lid, we all jumped six feet in the air at the sight of a black tarantula marching around the box. Willy freaked and slammed the lid shut. When the lid closed, the spider stopped moving. But when Willy dared to open it again, the spider again started moving. That's when Justin revealed the remote control that was making it move.

While I was glad it was fake, I can't deny that spider was super creepy and quite realistic looking.

As for Willy, I think he'll be giving his mom heart attacks soon enough.

+ Christmas night, we played Blockus (so much fun) and watched The Family Stone (which I'd seen already.)

+ Today was my mom's birthday so we celebrated that and then Nick and I headed for home.

+ I want to thank [livejournal.com profile] angelskuuipo for the lovely scarf and angel duck and thank [livejournal.com profile] loquaciousambie for the awesome Disney-themed card.

+Finally, I'll be posting a new fic tomorrow. It's a one-shot, Riley/Willow friendship fic.
