Dear Alyson:

I feel like I've written this letter a dozen times, though I know it hasn't quite been this...formal? Or maybe it won't be...who really knows? Gosh, I'm babbling. Why am I babbling? Because I obviously can't even write a letter that you'll probably never see without feeling like a gushing fangirl.

Your portrayal of Willow got me through high school and college. Your comedic timing has made me laugh so hard I've fallen off of chairs. (Seriously. See: HIMYM - "How Lily Stole Christmas.") I've seen as many of your movies as I can, including My Stepmother Is An Alien, the American Pie Trilogy, and (painfully) Date Night. I even watched that episode you did for The Goode Family and literally bounced up and down when I recognized your voice.

You absolutely deserve respect for what you do and I positively adore you and hope that I get a chance to meet you someday.

Sincerely yours,
Ann

In other news, Nick and I watched The Kids Are All Right this evening. I must say that I enjoyed it (and so did he.) We did determine that we don't really agree with the critics that it's a lesbian movie per se. Yes, the primary couple contains two women, but on the whole, it's way more of a piece on the human condition (it references Russian literature for goodness sakes!)

Aww, the letter is wonderful!!! She DOES respond to a lot of her fans through Twitter (@alydenisof) so with a bit of luck, you could get a message from her there!

The Kids are All Right sounds like a good movie! I'd love to check it out but looks like it's R18. :( If only I could get a fake ID...

That would mean getting a Twitter though, and I refuse to do that. I just don't appreciate the concept.

It is rated 18. How far away are you?

To be honest, I don't really like the idea of Twitter either. It's probably because I'm not a celebrity and no one will probably pay attention to my tweets, so I'll basically be talking to myself if I ever tweeted!

It is rated 18. How far away are you? A couple more years and several inches in height... *sigh*

I still need to see The Kids Are Alright. It looks excellent, though.

What a sweet letter! I too would seem like a gushing fangirl.

I really liked The Kids Are All Right. I didn't think it was a lesbian movie at all. It has far too much of an ensemble cast for that. It was a movie that happened to have lesbians in it.

Precisely!

It was actually rather family-oriented...in a sense.

Aww, such a cute letter!

Unfortunately, until gay and lesbian storylines become more commonplace, pretty much every film that gives significant screentime to queer characters is going to be a LGBT movie. Hopefully one day the distinction won't be necessary.

Thank you!

And yeah, that's an unfortunate truth.

I literally just got The Kids Are All Right from Netflix yesterday afternoon! I'm just hoping I'll be able to sit down and watch it soon.

And your letter to Alyson is totally sweet. :)

I hope you'll choose to blog about it.
I'm curious to hear what you think seeing as you're a film major and all. :D

I was watching That 70's Show last night and Aly was on as a lady cop, it was pretty cute. She had fab hair, too.

Ooh! I saw that movie last summer at a screening. I thought it was good and definitely not a 'lesbian' movie. I thought it was about a relationship and a family and the problems they faced, the same ones they might face whether the couple was two women or a heterosexual marriage.

Also the two actors who played the kids were completely awesome and I'd love to see them in more movies. :)

I remember her guest arc on That 70's Show. She never stops being adorable.

Have you seen the new Alice in Wonderland? The daughter was in that. She played Alice.

Yeah, I remember that! It seems like ages since those movies were out. I saw Alice after The Kids are All Right, actually...and wasn't that into it, but I guess that's another story. I really liked the son, I've been meaning to look into what else he's done/is doing.
