Day 14 — Someone you’ve drifted away from

Anne Rice:

I haven't read your books in years. I used to love your sexy vampires, your kinky Sleeping Beauty, and your incestuous witches. But I pulled away before I even finished the Vampire Chronicles. I don't know why...I just lost interest.

Still, I wish you the best.

Peace,
a former reader

Day 15 — The person you miss the most

I've already written this letter. The person I miss the most is Loki. On the bright side, he emailed last night to tell me he's coming back to Wisconsin soon. YAY!

Okay...so I don't know how many of you know this, but I need to start by saying that I'm still at Power Packer (at least until the end of Janauary.) Pauquette was merely being kind to me by letting me know I got the job, but the way I understand it, they're still up to their ears in credentialing paperwork and they still need to hire an occupational therapist.

I'm not too frustrated about it though because my conversations with Power Packer and Pauqette last week have led me to believe there's an end/beginning in sight. And at least, I'm making some sort of money right now so that's good too.

Anyway, I'm admittedly only doing a half-hearted job at work today as I've got several fic projects in the work that are distracting me from the agony of data entry (one is a sequel to my Angelus/Riley fic: Freedom Isn't Free and the other is a Spillow adventure set during Season 5 of Angel.) But what I find really funny is, just a few minutes ago, my boss came over to my workspace and told me I was being too studious and should take a break. Little did she know...I had been as I was writing fic. *g* But, still, we had a nice chat and I've learned some more information about the holiday party they're having this weekend. I'm looking forward to that.

I've only ever read Interview with a Vampire and the Vampire Lestat. I have the Witching Hour at home, but I haven't read it yet. I've been warned not to go beyond those books.

I do have a soft spot for the Vampire Armand, but you are pretty much right about not going beyond those.

Anne Rice lost my interest fairly quickly. There's just something about her books that doesn't work for me.

I truly hope things work out for you on the career front. *hugs you lots*

I think there's a lack of feeling, especially in her later works. Like she doesn't care about the writing anymore...or something.

I know it will. These things just take time, I guess. It's what I get for getting hired to a program that's not even in existence yet.

I tried to get into Anne Rice so I would have something more to talk to this girl I liked about, but never got past Interview and the Witching Hour. They were okay, but there was something about them that (I don't know why) I just didn't like. I have nothing I can point to and say THAT that is what I don't like. It is more of a lack of feeling I get from the books.

Hopefully time will move fast for you and before you know it you'll be at Pauquette.

I agree that there's something missing from her books, but it is hard to point a finger at it.

I luuuuurve Anne Rice's porny Sleeping Beauty books. And not even in an ironic post-modern way. I just think they're dirty and fun! :-D

My favourite Ann Rice book is Memnoch the Devil. The way it looks at religion and the origins of life really made an impact on me.

I hope you get to see Loki soon!

I'm glad things are working out at Power Packer while Pauquette gets organized. And yay for a party!

That is a good one!

The party should be fun. They're giving out three drink tickets for each attendee.

I never read any Anne Rice, but these things happen! You drift away from some authors and find new awesome ones! Reading is just the gift that keeps on giving. :)

While it's lame that Pauquette hasn't been able to secure an OT yet, I'm glad that you're okay with it and keeping things in perspective. I'm just happy you've got that to look forward to!

I figure it's absolutely necessary for me to keep things in perspective. Getting anxious and freaking out over what amounts to nothing isn't the way to go.

I'm the same with Anne Rice. I've read nearly all of them but I only have a vague idea of the plot, etc. There's just so many words and not much substance. Or maybe that's just because I'm ADD when I read books? haha But I do love The Vampire Armand. He's always been my favourite and I do enjoy that book and learning about his human life and such. I'm actually re-reading it at the mo'.

You lasted longer than me, I only ever got half way through one book, she didn't appeal to me at all I'm afraid.
