Letter 17 - Childhood
Jan. 20th, 2011 08:24 pmDear Nicholas:
Remember how we used to play Batman, Robin, and Catwoman on the playground in second grade? You were always Batman, Danny was always Robin, and I was always...well, I guess that's not hard to guess. :)
Remember how your mom would always drive me to my dad's work so I wouldn't have to walk there? I remember the car always smelled like cigarettes and she always had some romance novel sitting in the backseat next to me. I always thought your mom was hardcore though since she worked in the steel fabrication plant and raised you all by herself.
Remember how those boys pushed me into the wood chips on the playground because I was playing with you and they thought you were weird? We didn't talk for six months and each one of those months was so hard because all I wanted to do was hang out with you, but you wanted to protect me.
Remember when we went to high school and you came out to everyone but me, even though I'd told you all about Sarah? I don't want to sound selfish...but that really hurt.
Remember when we both went off to college and never spoke again? I do. How could I forget?
